Job Title: Roastery Coffee House Operations Manager
Location: Chippenham (Roastery / Operational hub)
Position: Full-Time | £29,000–£32,000 per annum, dependent on experience
About us
We’re an artisan speciality coffee roastery dedicated to sourcing exceptional single-origin coffees (SCA 86+) directly from producers. We showcase the beauty and journey of the top 1% of coffees produced globally, roasted by us locally. We balance this uncompromising craft with down-to-earth warmth, creating an unpretentious, welcoming place where daily regulars, curious locals, and discerning coffee enthusiasts all feel at home.
As our footprint grows, we are looking for an experienced, hands-on Roastery Coffee House Operations Manager to lead daily front-of-house operations, nurture our team, and be the welcoming heartbeat of our community.
The role
You will take genuine operational ownership of the space, blending high-touch hospitality and community warmth with operational excellence. Working closely with the founder and maintaining a fluid, positive rapport with all stakeholders across the business, you will set the tone on the floor: delivering exceptional service to a knowledgeable audience, mentoring the team, managing smooth rotas and stock, and proactively resolving daily challenges with practical common sense.
(If you bring hospitality management experience, strong service instincts, and good baseline barista experience, we will gladly coach and refine your advanced technical extraction and sensory skills).
Key responsibilities
- Team leadership: Lead from the front, mentoring baristas in workflow, consistency, and service excellence. Build fair, efficient weekly rotas that balance resource needs against peak trade while setting the team and business up for success. Foster a supportive culture through regular check-ins and on-the-spot coaching.
- Warm hospitality & exceptional service: Set the hospitality benchmark from the moment a guest walks in. Build authentic connections with regulars, handle high-expectation and detail-conscious guests with grace, and foster an inclusive, vibrant community space.
- Proactive problem solving: Take the lead on resolving day-to-day operational hurdles (facilities, maintenance, workflow bottlenecks, local supplier coordination) with practical, solution-first initiative.
- Coffee storytelling & quality standards: Share the origin journey and sensory beauty of our world-class coffees with genuine enthusiasm. Ensure dial-in recipes, brew standards, and routine machine/grinder care are upheld with pride across the team.
- Operational excellence & SOPs: Maintain and refine standard operating procedures for opening/closing, cleanliness, till reconciliations, overall environment, health & safety, and workflow efficiency.
- Stock & inventory control: Manage stock and ordering to maintain healthy margins, prevent waste, and eliminate stockouts.
- Commercial growth: Drive retail bean and brewing equipment sales through warm, accessible guidance. Identify opportunities to improve daily efficiency and elevate the customer experience.
- Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to food hygiene (HACCP), allergen handling, and health & safety logs.
Who you are
- Proven management or supervisory experience in a quality-focused busy coffee house or hospitality venue, with a track record of delivering high levels of customer service to detail-orientated customers.
- A deep, honest love for coffee and a curiosity to explore the world’s finest beans. (If you bring hospitality management experience, strong service instincts, and baseline barista experience, we will gladly coach and refine your advanced technical extraction and sensory skills).
- An approachable natural, engaging host who builds rapport easily with customers, team members, and company leadership alike matched with calm problem-solving skills, and clear communication.
- A proactive self-starter with a solution-oriented mindset who naturally asks "How do I fix this?" and takes pride in running an exceptional, efficient space.
- Highly organised and commercially grounded; confident with rota drafting, stock control, compliance standards, and daily cash reconciliations, along with creating opportunities for continued business growth.
