Pastoral Support Mentor
We are looking for a Pastoral Support Mentor to join our specialist secondary school in Portsmouth, supporting boys with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Our school provides a small, nurturing environment where students are supported as individuals. We recognise that every young person has different needs, and our approach focuses on building positive relationships, developing confidence and helping students overcome barriers to learning.
We are looking for a caring, reliable and resilient individual who can provide consistent pastoral support and help our students feel safe, valued and ready to learn.
The Role
As a Pastoral Support Mentor, you will work closely with students, teachers and the wider pastoral team to support the emotional, social and behavioural needs of our young people.
The role will include:
- Building positive and trusting relationships with students.
- Providing day-to-day pastoral support and guidance.
- Supporting students with their emotional wellbeing and behaviour.
- Helping students manage challenges and develop positive coping strategies.
- Encouraging students to engage positively with school and their learning.
- Supporting students during lessons, break and lunch times and extracurricular activities.
- Helping students develop confidence, resilience and independence.
- Providing a calm and consistent presence for students who may find school challenging.
- Supporting students to develop positive relationships with peers and adults.
- Working closely with teaching and pastoral colleagues to identify and respond to individual needs.
- Contributing to behaviour, pastoral and individual support strategies.
- Communicating appropriately with colleagues, families and other professionals where required.
- Recognising and celebrating student progress and achievement.

Previous experience working in a school, alternative provision, youth work, care or another setting supporting young people would be an advantage.
