This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, operationally critical environment where technology availability directly impacts the passenger journey.
About the Role
As an Airport Engineer, you will provide first-line technical support, maintenance and operational assistance for passenger processing systems across the airport estate. You will be responsible for ensuring that passenger check-in, self-service kiosk and automated bag-drop technologies remain fully operational and available to support airport operations.
Working within a dedicated engineering team, you will diagnose and resolve hardware issues, perform preventative maintenance, support installations and upgrades, manage spare parts inventories and maintain accurate asset records.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Perform regular routine and preventative maintenance on IT equipment used for passenger processing, ensuring all systems remain operational and efficient.
-
Conduct floor-walking to monitor the health of airport IT systems, identifying potential issues before they impact operations.
-
Respond to incidents and service requests received via the Global Service Desk, ensuring all service level agreements (SLAs) are adhered to.
-
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to airline host systems, connectivity, and other critical IT components.
-
Maintain excellent communication with both colleagues and the Global Service Desk, providing timely updates on the status of incidents and resolutions.
-
Identify spare parts and raise requests with the Global Service Desk to ensure incident progress is accurately recorded and resolved.
Skills and Qualifications:
-
Proven hands-on experience in IT support, with strong technical knowledge in both hardware and software.
-
Effective communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with both technical and non-technical teams.
-
Ability to work efficiently under pressure, meeting tight deadlines and responding to urgent incidents as needed.
-
Strong customer service orientation, ensuring all interactions are professional, courteous, and solution-focused.
-
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Desktop Software and related tools.
-
Understanding of network protocols, server hardware, and IT configurations. Relevant qualifications or certifications are desirable.
-
A Full UK Driving License is required for travel between sites.
-
A clear and accountable 5-year employment history is necessary for security clearance.
Shift Pattern
This role forms part of a dedicated engineering team providing support across a 24x7 airport operation. Candidates must be flexible to work a rotating shift pattern, including days, nights, weekends and public holidays, as required to maintain service coverage and operational resilience.
Security & Airside Requirements
Due to airport security and airside access requirements, all successful candidates must be capable of obtaining and maintaining an airport security pass.
Applicants must be able to provide a fully verifiable five-year employment, education and address history. Any significant unexplained gaps, or periods that cannot be satisfactorily evidenced through references or supporting documentation, may affect eligibility for airport security clearance and airside access approval.
If you are a customer-focused engineer who enjoys solving technical problems in fast-paced operational environments and wants to play a key role in keeping passengers moving, we would like to hear from you.
ESP Global Services is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all suitably qualified candidates.
