Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our educational team. This role will focus on supporting learners with a range of needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You will play an important role in creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where students feel valued and able to engage in their education.
Monday – Friday | Full Time | Term Time Only
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm
Duties
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students, helping them engage with lessons and activities.
- Supporting students with emotional and behavioural needs, using appropriate de-escalation techniques to manage challenging situations and maintain a safe, positive learning environment.
- Build positive relationships with students, helping to promote confidence, independence, and emotional wellbeing.
- Assist with managing behaviour using positive and proactive strategies.
- Support social, emotional, and behavioural development through structured activities and interventions.
Skills & Experience
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is highly desirable.
- Previous experience within a school, special education setting, care environment, or working directly with young people is essential.
- A patient, empathetic and resilient approach, with the ability to build strong relationships with learners.
- Confident supporting students with emotional regulation and behavioural needs.
- Experience using appropriate de-escalation techniques to support students during challenging situations.
- A proactive attitude and a genuine passion for helping young people succeed.
Requirements
- Enhanced DBS (child and adult)
- Relevant experience supporting children or young people.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
