About the Role
We are looking for a proactive and organised Materials Controller to join our team. This is a stores-based role, combining hands-on materials handling with stock control and ERP administration responsibilities.
Working closely with production and workshop personnel, you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of the stores, assisting employees with the materials and consumables they require, maintaining accurate stock records, and helping to ensure materials are available when needed.
This is a varied role suited to someone who enjoys a mix of practical work and administrative responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect and store incoming materials and deliveries.
- Issue materials, consumables and equipment to employees and production teams.
- Assist with loading, unloading and movement of stock within the stores and yard areas.
- Maintain accurate inventory records using the company's ERP system.
- Process goods received notes and stock transactions.
- Conduct stock checks and cycle counts to ensure inventory accuracy.
- Monitor stock levels and highlight replenishment requirements.
- Support material traceability and certification control where required.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, organisation and safety within the stores and yard.
- Work closely with Production, Purchasing and Operations to ensure materials are available when required.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- 2-3 years' experience in a similar type of role
- Experience using ERP systems.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- A hands-on approach and willingness to assist wherever required.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work with colleagues across the business.
- Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
Desirable
- Valid FLT (Forklift Truck) licence.
- Experience within an engineering, manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- Knowledge of steel products and materials.
- Experience of material certification and traceability processes.
Working Hours
The stores team provides support across the business between 6:00am and 6:00pm, and flexibility is required to help ensure adequate cover throughout these operating hours.
The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with other team members to support the team's coverage requirements and may occasionally be required to adjust their start and finish times to meet operational needs.
Why Join Us?
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the development of our stores function. Rather than stepping into a long-established department with fixed processes, you'll have the chance to help shape how the stores operate and contribute to building a highly organised, efficient and customer-focused service for the business.
We are looking for someone who enjoys identifying opportunities for improvement, introducing better ways of working and taking ownership of their area. Your ideas and input will be valued, and you'll have the opportunity to make a genuine impact on how materials, stock control and stores operations are managed.
In return, you'll join a supportive team within a growing engineering business where no two days are the same and where your contribution will directly support the success of production and operational activities.
