HR Administrator – Part-Time
Wonderland Day Nursery, Letchworth Garden City
Wonderland Day Nursery is a well-established, family-run day nursery in Letchworth Garden City. We are looking for an experienced and organised HR Administrator to join our friendly team and provide high-quality, efficient day-to-day HR administration and support to our Management Team.
This is an important role within our nursery, supporting our team of approximately 70 employees and helping to ensure that our HR processes are well organised, accurate, confidential and compliant with current employment legislation.
The Role
Hours: 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Usual hours: 9.00am – 2.00pm
Flexibility: We can be flexible with start and finish times, but the role must be worked over five hours each day, Monday to Friday.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate, organised and confidential employee personnel files, ensuring all records are kept up to date and managed in accordance with data protection requirements.
- Carry out regular audits and maintenance of personnel files and HR records.
- Provide an efficient and timely response to day-to-day HR enquiries from staff and managers.
- Manage incoming HR emails, post, paperwork and general HR administration.
- Maintain accurate employee information on our bespoke online HR database, including:
- Staff personal details and changes
- Recruitment and pre-employment checks
- Employment records and documentation
- Staff qualifications and certificates
- Start dates and leaving information
- Absence and sickness records
- Staff training and training records
- Probation periods and review dates for new starters
- Support the Management Team with the recruitment and onboarding process, ensuring all relevant checks and documentation are completed.
- Assist with payroll administration and provide accurate information to support the monthly payroll process.
- Support the Management Team with disciplinary, grievance and other employee relations processes, ensuring appropriate procedures are followed.
- Keep up to date with relevant employment legislation and HR best practice.
- Liaise with our external HR company when advice or additional support is required.
- Provide general HR support to the Management Team and staff as required.
About You
We are looking for someone who is professional, approachable, organised and able to work confidently and independently within a busy early years environment.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience working in an HR or HR administration role.
- A good understanding of HR processes and current employment legislation.
- Experience of supporting the full recruitment process, including pre-employment checks.
- Knowledge and experience of payroll administration and payroll essentials.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate professionally and sensitively with staff at all levels.
- Excellent organisational skills and a high level of attention to detail.
- The ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A proactive and positive approach to problem-solving.
- Experience of working with HR databases or online HR systems would be advantageous.
