Are you passionate about supporting children and young people to learn, grow and thrive?
We’re looking for a Student Mentors to join the team at Figure of Eight Education, supporting learners across both our Tuition Centre and Environmental Centre.
Our students often thrive outside of traditional school environments. As a Student Mentor, you’ll build positive relationships with children and young people, provide encouragement and structure, and help them develop confidence, independence and the skills they need to progress.
You’ll work with students one-to-one and in small groups, delivering and supporting learning activities both inside our Tuition Centre and outdoors at our Environmental Centre, where nature, horticulture and practical learning provide opportunities to engage students in different ways.
This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys working creatively with children and young people and is passionate about making a genuine difference to their education and wellbeing.
What you’ll do
- Mentor and support children and young people in a nurturing, inclusive and positive environment
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students and encourage their confidence, independence and engagement
- Support learning and educational activities at our Tuition Centre
- Deliver and support engaging outdoor, environmental and nature-based learning at our Environmental Centre
- Support practical activities such as horticulture, gardening, cooking, woodcraft, environmental projects and community activities
- Work one-to-one and in small groups, adapting your approach to individual students
- Support students who may have additional educational, social, emotional or behavioural needs
- Help students develop communication, social and life skills alongside their academic learning
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, families, schools and other professionals to support student progress
- Contribute to planning, assessment and recording of student progress
- Promote positive behaviour, safeguarding and a safe learning environment
- Encourage students to explore their interests, develop new skills and experience success
- Support students both inside the Tuition Centre and outdoors at the Environmental Centre, depending on their individual timetable and programme
What we’re looking for
- Experience working with school-aged children or young people in an education, mentoring, youth work or support role
- A genuine passion for helping children and young people achieve their potential
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- A patient, calm and nurturing approach
- An interest in outdoor learning, horticulture, environmental education or practical learning
- Confidence working both indoors and outdoors in a variety of settings
- An interest in supporting children and young people with additional educational, social or emotional needs
- The ability to adapt your approach to meet individual needs
- A positive, proactive and creative approach to learning
- The ability to work effectively as part of a small, supportive team

Please note: This position is term-time only, with salary paid pro rata to the school term-time working year.
