Selby Landscapes is looking for a reliable and experienced Grounds Maintenance Operative to join our growing maintenance division.
We work on high-end private gardens and premium properties across Bath and the surrounding area. This role would suit someone who enjoys practical outdoor work, takes pride in presentation, has good plant knowledge, and is confident using garden tools and machinery.
This is a hands-on maintenance role covering regular garden and grounds care. We are looking for someone dependable, hard-working and able to work to a high standard as part of a professional team.

About the role
No two days are exactly the same. The work will include mowing, strimming, hedge cutting, pruning, weeding, border care, clearance work, seasonal tidy-ups and general grounds maintenance across a range of well-maintained private gardens and client sites.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Lawn mowing and lawn care
- Strimming, edging and general grounds maintenance
- Hedge cutting and pruning
- Plant care, weeding and border maintenance
- Garden clearance and seasonal tidy-ups
- Using garden machinery, hand tools and maintenance equipment safely
- Keeping sites clean, tidy and well presented
- Supporting regular maintenance visits on high-end private gardens
- Working as part of a small, professional team
- Communicating politely and professionally with clients when required
- Reporting any site issues, plant health concerns or additional work opportunities to the maintenance manager
The ideal candidate
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in garden maintenance, grounds care, horticulture or similar outdoor work
- Reliable, punctual and hard-working
- Confident using garden tools and machinery
- Plant-aware, with a good basic understanding of garden care
- Able to work to a high standard on well-presented private gardens
- Practical, tidy and organised
- Comfortable working outdoors in all seasons
- Able to follow instructions and work well as part of a team
- Professional, polite and confident around clients
- Keen to grow with a rapidly expanding company
Essential requirements
- Full UK driving licence
- Relevant garden maintenance, grounds care or horticultural experience
- Good working knowledge of plants, tools and basic garden care
- Full CV
- Proof or examples of previous work
- Professional attitude and good communication skills
- Applicants must be authorised to work in the UK
Applicants must have relevant experience, a full UK driving licence and a full CV. We are looking for someone who can show previous garden maintenance, grounds care or horticultural experience.
Desirable but not essential
- Horticultural qualification
- PA1 / PA6 spraying certificates
- Trailer licence
- Experience working on private gardens or estate-style properties
- Experience with lawn care, hedge cutting, pruning and seasonal maintenance
Pay and contract
This will initially be a subcontract position, with a 6-month probation period. After successful completion of the probation period, the right candidate will have the opportunity to move onto payroll.
There will be clear progression opportunities for someone who proves themselves reliable, capable, plant-aware and committed to working to a high standard.
