We are looking for an enthusiastic Production Team Leader to join our team at the UK's largest tree nursery, based in the beautiful countryside of East Lothian. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in supporting the production of millions of trees that contribute to woodland creation, biodiversity, and a greener future.
About the Role
As a Production Team Leader, you will be responsible for leading and supporting a team across our production operations (Seeding, Transplanting or Grading). You will ensure daily production targets are met safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards while fostering a positive and productive working environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate, and develop a team of production operatives from a wide range of different cultural backgrounds.
- Organise daily workloads to achieve production targets and deadlines.
- Monitor productivity, quality standards, and operational performance.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Support staff training, onboarding, and performance management.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and increased efficiency.
- Communicate and work effectively with other colleagues to ensure smooth operations.
- Resolve production issues and escalate concerns when necessary.
- Ensure accurate production records and reports are maintained.
About You
We're looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience in a team leader, supervisor, or similar leadership role.
- Has previously worked in a fast-paced environment.
- Possesses strong people management and communication skills.
- Is organised, proactive, and able to prioritise workloads effectively.
- Has experience working within a food production, agricultural, manufacturing, horticultural, or operational environment.
- Is committed to maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
- Can inspire and motivate teams to achieve shared goals.
- Experience with KPIs and performance management.
- Proficiency in basic computer systems and reporting tools.
- Strong numerical skills
Desirable
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement practices.
- First Aid or Health & Safety qualifications.
- Good problem solving and decision-making abilities.
