We are looking for an experienced Phlebotomist to cover a one year, fixed-term Maternity cover for one session per week.
The Mill Medical Practice is a highly regarded and friendly GP training practice based in Godalming, Surrey. We provide high-quality clinical care to over 17,000 patients and retained an Outstanding rating in our most recent CQC inspection, conducted in November 2025.
We are consistently high achievers in the Quality and Outcomes Framework, achieving 97.5% of available points at the end of this financial year. The practice is fully digital and uses EMIS Web, Docman, Lexacom, AccuRx, and EPS to support safe, efficient, and effective patient care.
We have seven GP partners and three salaried GPs and are a successful training practice. We work within a well-established multidisciplinary team that includes three paramedics, a nurse practitioner, a first contact physiotherapist, GPiMHS, a clinical pharmacist, and a pharmacy technician. The clinical team is supported by an excellent administrative team, alongside highly skilled nursing staff and healthcare assistants.
The practice is located in purpose-built premises on the outskirts of Godalming, which we moved into seventeen years ago. We offer a wide range of enhanced services, including minor surgery, contraception, and anticoagulation, and provide patients with a hybrid model of access. We are also a member of East Waverley PCN, working collaboratively alongside four other local practices.
The following are the core responsibilities of the Phlebotomist. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
- Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample
- Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols
- Maintaining accurate patient records on Emis web
- The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples
- Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies
- Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
- Maintaining an effective liaison with the laboratory staff at relevant hospital trusts
- Chaperoning duties
- Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
- Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment
- Arranging 24hr BP Monitor/Cardiac Event Monitor/ IGT Recall
- Fitting of 24hr BP Monitor/Cardiac Event Monitor
- Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
- Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
- Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
- Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
- Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Phlebotomist may be requested to:
- Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead
- Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
- Support and participate in shared learning within the practice
- Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the Enhanced Access Hours.
