Job Title: Practice Nurse
Contract type: Permanent (subject to satisfactory probation)
Schedule: Monday to Friday
Work Location: On-site (no remote working options). With a designated practice but you may be required to travel for meetings and training or provide cover for various other Practices or Primary Care Network at such notice.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Reports to: Practice Manager and/or GP

Job Overview:
(Note: In addition to these functions employees are required to carry out such duties as may reasonably be required)
- To provide nursing services to the Practice population by assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care
- To ensure the provision of a high-quality Patient service within a safe, efficient working environment by providing effective support to the Partners and staff and encouraging the development and progress of practice.
- Maintaining appropriate records to ensure continuity and quality of care for patients
- To collaborate with other GP Partners/employees and Practice staff on development and delivery of PBC (Practice Based Commissioning) and enhanced service issues within Practice
- To be involved in Practice development, identifying service changes and developments in line with clinical needs locally and work to develop these as part of PBC and other processes
- Maintaining records of appointments and other administrative duties
- To maintain skills and undertake such training and development as may from time-to-time be required to maintain personal competency.
Role specific duties:
- To provide assessment, treatment, screening, health education services and advice working in accordance with the NMC Code of conduct
- Provide nursing treatments to patients independently or in participation with other clinical colleagues working to agreed protocols and guidelines
- Provide general and specific health screenings to the Practice Patients within agreed protocols and guidelines referring to other members of the clinical team as necessary
- To manage Patients with chronic diseases; running specific clinic sessions and maintaining robust call and recall systems
- Participate in national screening work such as cervical cytology and meet targets delivering the national immunisation and vaccination schedule.
Nursing procedures to include:
- Wound management
- Measuring blood pressure
- Routine injections as prescribed
- Cervical smears
- ECG’s
- Ear syringing
- Vaccinations and immunisations
- Assisting with minor surgery and IUCD insertion
- Provide advice to patients for general health care and minor ailments, with referral to another clinician as necessary.
- To participate in research within the Practice.
- To be responsible for the efficient running of the treatment room and equipment
- To assist with the management of leg ulcers.
- Select, carry out and interpret results of specific tests.
- Ensure all statutory regulations (e.g., Infection control, Health & Safety, COSHH, etc) are implemented and adhered to.
- To maintain accurate, comprehensive records of all consultations and treatments in the Patient’s notes, both written and computerised.
- Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the Practice.
- Ensure collection of statistical information is required for regular and ad hoc reports.
- To have working knowledge of equipment used in the surgery
- Ensure compliance with patient confidentiality at all times in line with current legislation.
- Contribute to the development of new Patient services.
- Inform your line manager of any reported or suspected failings in the provision of care within the Practice

Working with others:
Evaluate and adapt care using evidence-based practice in consultation with colleagues as a forum for team education, development, and audit.
- To set up new clinics and monitor existing clinics to ensure smooth running and collection of statistics.
- To participate in the education of students of all disciplines.
- To be actively involved and engaged in Practice and wider team meetings and forums to promote communication and development.
- Attend and participate in Practice and staff meetings as appropriate.
- Maintain effective liaison with other agencies and staff concerned with patient care, including other disciplines within the Practice, whilst maintaining confidentiality.
- In participation with colleagues, ensure the maintenance of equipment and stock levels relating to patient care.
- To act as a chaperone as requested by clinicians.
- To function as an integral part of the team.

- Ensure that Patients' rights are protected.

- Using evidence-based practice to assist in the formulation of Practice philosophy, strategy, and policy.
- To supervise the nursing duties and activities within the surgery
- Participate in developing the philosophy, goals and objectives for health care provided by the practice.
- Participate in the assessment of the effectiveness of health care provided by the Practice.
- Promote and participate in a high standard of care within the Practice.
- To promote a professional approach at all times by attire and attitude to patients and staff both in and out of the Practice
Personal Responsibilities:
To have knowledge of and act at all times within the boundaries of Health and Safety legislation, Data Protection Acts and Care Quality Commission compliance requirements.
- Provide information for a DBS check, and inform the Practice of any incident that may change the DBS status.

Specific Requirement for Previous Experience:
