Job Title: Maintenance Handy Person / General Maintenance Operative
Location: Leeds (3 units on site)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:00 – 15:45
Overtime: Available when required

About the Role
We are looking for a reliable and practical Handy Person to join our Maintenance Department. This is a varied, hands-on role supporting the upkeep and smooth running of our three Leeds-based units.
No two days will be the same. This role would suit someone who is a “jack of all trades”, enjoys solving problems, working with tools, and getting stuck into a wide range of tasks around the site.
You will work under the guidance of the Maintenance team, helping maintain buildings, machinery, and the surrounding yard areas.
Key Responsibilities
Your duties may include:
- General building and site maintenance
- Yard maintenance, including cleaning, litter picking, and winter gritting
- Fixing doors, locks, fencing, and general repairs
- Basic plumbing tasks (changing taps, fixing leaks, replacing toilet seats etc.)
- Repairing sockets and replacing light bulbs
- Supporting the Maintenance Technician with machine servicing
- Building projects using timber
- Operating workshop equipment such as dimension saws, upstroke saws, and hand tools
- Breaking down scrap frames
- Troubleshooting faults and carrying out repairs
- Managing consumables such as rock salt and maintenance supplies
- Driving a forklift truck (FLT) when required
- Helping other departments when needed
You will also have access to the workshop, tools, and machinery to help build, repair, and create solutions around the site.
Additional Tasks
Other tasks may include:
- Assisting the electrician when required
- Helping with general maintenance projects
- Fetching and carrying materials
- Keeping the yard and work areas organised and safe
Working Style
This role can be physically demanding and fast-paced, and you may be required to move between different tasks and departments throughout the day.
Because of this, strong time management and the ability to prioritise workloads are essential. You must be comfortable adapting to changing business needs and responding quickly to maintenance issues as they arise.
We are looking for someone with a positive, proactive attitude who is willing to get stuck in wherever needed. This role requires a team player who takes pride in solving problems and supporting the wider business.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Practical DIY / maintenance experience
- Experience using hand tools and workshop equipment
- Ability to work independently and manage your time
- Strong problem-solving mindset
- Willingness to work hard and take initiative
- Full driving licence
Desirable (but not essential):
- FLT licence (training can be provided)
- Experience using Cherry Pickers or Scissor Lifts (training available)
- Experience with 3D printing or prototype building
- Previous maintenance or facilities experience
Training Provided
We can provide in-house training, including:
- Forklift Truck (FLT)
- Cherry Picker
- Scissor Lift
- 3D Printing (for prototype work)
