Chris Wright Baildon Ltd is looking for an experienced HGV Transport Compliance Officer to join our team in Baildon.

You will need to be highly organised, confident using computer systems and comfortable dealing directly with experienced drivers, mechanics, workshops and external suppliers. There will be occasions where you need to question information, challenge non-compliance and ensure actions are followed through properly.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor drivers' hours, tachograph and Working Time Directive compliance.
- Review infringements and carry out or coordinate driver debriefs.
- Maintain driver records including driving licences, Driver CPC and other relevant qualifications.
- Monitor vehicle and trailer PMI, servicing and MOT schedules.
- Ensure vehicle defects are properly recorded, actioned and closed.
- Liaise with drivers, workshop staff and external maintenance providers regarding defects and maintenance requirements.
- Maintain accurate and audit-ready vehicle, trailer and driver compliance records.
- Assist the Transport Manager with day-to-day Operator Licence compliance.
- Monitor compliance systems and produce regular reports, trackers and management information.
- Identify overdue or missing compliance actions and ensure they are followed through to completion.
- Assist with preparation for DVSA inspections, audits and compliance reviews.
- Maintain and develop internal transport compliance procedures.
- Manage and submit abnormal-load movement notifications/orders, including the use of systems such as ESDAL and ABHaulier.
- Take ownership of company transport and supplier accreditations, including maintaining evidence, monitoring expiry dates and completing renewal submissions.
- Maintain training, competency and expiry-date records.
- Work closely with the Traffic Desk, workshop and management team to ensure compliance issues are dealt with promptly.
Essential experience and skills
Applicants should have:
- Previous experience working within HGV transport, fleet or Operator Licence compliance.
- A good working knowledge of drivers' hours regulations.

- Understanding of the Working Time Directive.
- Experience with vehicle maintenance compliance, including PMIs, MOTs, servicing and defects.
- A practical understanding of Operator Licence requirements.
- Experience maintaining accurate fleet and driver compliance records.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
- Confidence learning and using transport and compliance software.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- The ability to manage multiple deadlines and ensure actions are completed.
- Confidence dealing with drivers, mechanics, workshops and external suppliers.

- R2C or similar fleet maintenance systems.
- Samsara or other fleet telematics systems.
- Experience of DVSA/O-licence audits.
- Abnormal-load movement orders or notifications.
- ESDAL or ABHaulier experience.
Training can be provided for our specific systems, accreditations and abnormal-load processes where the applicant already has a strong grounding in HGV transport compliance.
The person we are looking for
This role would suit somebody who is methodical, organised and takes ownership.
You should be comfortable working independently and following issues through rather than simply recording them. If a defect has not been properly closed, paperwork is missing or a driver has a compliance issue, we expect you to investigate it and make sure it is resolved.
We are looking for somebody who wants to develop with the business and take increasing responsibility for our transport compliance systems over time.
