Job description
We're looking for enthusiastic and committed volunteers to who want to volunteer to teach or support learners on Talk English Courses and help people to improve their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
The Role
Teaching ESOL is a rewarding yet challenging experience. Focusing on the things people need to do in their everyday lives, such as going shopping, using public transport and going to the doctors, you will help learners to develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
Volunteering as an ESOL teacher or ESOL support teacher is a great opportunity for you to gain experience and develop new skills while making a difference to peoples lives. By volunteering with Talk English you will gain experience of teaching, working as part of a team and working with learners from all over the world. You will also develop your communication, presentation and organisational skills.
Volunteers are expected to:
- Attend an initial training course and subsequent training as required
- Commit to teaching one, 2 hour Pre-entry/Entry 1 ESOL class a week in a community setting for a minimum of 4-6 months alongside another volunteer (the teaching placement will be offered by Talk English)
We offer free training courses which introduce the role and responsibilities of Talk English volunteer ESOL teachers and ESOL teaching, learning and assessment methods and resources. In some areas, we also offer a fast track option for people who have already got teaching qualifications.

Our next round of classes start in September so we are looking to train volunteers on:

Time: 9:30am- 2:30pm
Venue: Rochdale (will confirm venue in email)

- Background of Talk English
- The beneficiaries of the project
- Supporting volunteers along the way
- How volunteers can prepare for the role
- How volunteers can prepare for the role
