Pallet Network Team Leader
Location: Littlehampton, BN17 7GA.
Department: Pallet Network Operations.
Reports To: General Manager.
Job Purpose
To lead the daily operation of pallet network activities, ensuring the efficient receipt, sorting, loading, dispatch, and tracking of palletised freight. The role involves supervising warehouse staff, coordinating with drivers and network partners, and ensuring service, safety, and productivity targets are achieved.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Supervise the day-to-day pallet network operation.
- Ensure inbound and outbound freight is processed accurately and on schedule.
- Monitor trailer arrivals and departures to meet network deadlines.
- Coordinate vehicle loading and unloading activities.
- Manage freight discrepancies, damages, and delivery exceptions.
Team Leadership
- Lead, motivate, and develop warehouse operatives and drivers.
- Conduct daily team briefings and shift handovers.
- Monitor attendance, performance, and productivity.
- Support recruitment, training, and onboarding of new employees.
- Address employee concerns and maintain a positive working environment.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct safety checks and risk assessments.
- Promote safe use of MHE (forklift trucks, pallet trucks, etc.).
- Investigate and report accidents, incidents, and near misses.
Customer Service & Communication
- Liaise with network members, transport planners, and customers.
- Resolve operational issues affecting deliveries or collections.
- Provide updates on service performance and operational challenges.
- Problem Solving: Investigating service failures, handling customer escalations, and resolving delivery delays.
Performance & Reporting
- Monitor KPIs such as:
- Network departure compliance
- Freight handling accuracy
- Loading productivity
- Damage rates
- On-time delivery performance
- Produce operational reports and recommend improvements.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Experience in pallet network, transport, logistics, or warehouse operations.
- Previous supervisory or team leader experience.
- Knowledge of palletised freight handling procedures.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- Good IT skills, including transport or warehouse management systems.
Desirable
- Forklift licence (Counterbalance/Reach).
- CPC Transport knowledge. (Qualification not needed).
- Experience with pallet network systems.
- Lean or continuous improvement experience.

Typical Working Hours
- 40–48 hours per week.
- Often includes early mornings, evenings, nights, and occasional Saturdays to meet network trunking schedules.
Pay: £32,000.00-£37,000.00 per year
