Job Purpose
We are currently seeking a hardworking and versatile Gardener and Handyman to join our team and support the day-to-day maintenance of the extensive gardens, landscaped grounds, lawns, woodlands, and facilities of a private estate.
This role focuses on maintaining the estate’s landscaped gardens and ornamental areas to a high standard, while also providing general maintenance support across estate properties and facilities. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head Gardener and wider estates team to ensure gardens, grounds, and estate infrastructure remain well maintained, safe, and presentable throughout the year.
About the Role
This is a permanent, hands-on, full-time role (Tuesday to Saturday) with a Sunday/Monday off requiring reliability, flexibility, and a positive attitude, and working in all kinds of weather. The successful candidate will be comfortable working within a traditional estate hierarchy, following instructions, respecting established routines, and contributing effectively as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for but not limited to:
Garden Maintenance
- Maintain the estate’s gardens, lawns, and landscaped areas to a high standard.
- Carry out weeding, pruning, hedge cutting, planting, and seasonal garden care.
- Support the development and upkeep of flower beds, borders, and planted areas.
- Assist with soil preparation, planting schemes, and seasonal garden improvements.
- Ensure garden areas remain tidy, healthy, and visually appealing.
- Frequent manual handling duties as part of general groundworks and estate maintenance
- Tasks include lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials such as fence panels, posts, tools, and equipment
Estate Maintenance & Handyman Duties
- Carry out general maintenance tasks across estate buildings and facilities.
- Support minor repairs including painting, decorating, basic carpentry, and DIY tasks.
- Support moving furniture, setting up spaces for events, or assisting with practical estate tasks when required.
Equipment & Safety
- Operate and maintain gardening tools and machinery safely (e.g. mowers, hedge cutters, strimmers).
- Ensure tools and equipment are kept in safe working order and stored appropriately.
- Identify and report maintenance issues or safety hazards across the estate.
Estate Team Support
- Work collaboratively with the estates and grounds teams to support estate operations.
- Provide practical support across a variety of estate activities when required.
- Contribute ideas and practical solutions to improve the upkeep and efficiency of estate operations.
- Driving estate vehicles (cars, vans, tractors) and carrying out errands, including occasional long-distance driving and family errands (e.g. school runs).
- Frequent manual handling duties as part of general groundworks and estate maintenance - tasks include lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials such as fence panels, posts, tools, and equipment
Desirable
- Horticultural knowledge or gardening qualifications
- Experience maintaining ornamental gardens or landscaped estates
- Basic carpentry or property maintenance experience
Experience and Essential Requirements :
- Experience in gardening, horticulture, landscaping, or estate maintenance- 2 Years
- Experience and competence with garden machinery (e.g. ride-on mowers, hedge cutters, strimmer's, tractors).
- Practical DIY skills and confidence carrying out general maintenance tasks
- Comfortable working around animals (including horses) and children – a DBS check will be required.
- Full UK driving licence and confidence in driving long distances and at night.
- Must be physically capable of safely lifting weights of up to 20kg on a regular basis.
License/Certification:
- Full Driving Licence (Essential)
- Full chainsaw licence (Desirable)
- CS30 and CS31 Tree Felling and Maintenance (Desirable)
- CS38 Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue (Desirable)
Work Location: In person working across the whole Estate spanning across WA16 and WA14 postcodes.
Working schedule - either Tuesday to Saturday or Sunday to Thursday with two consecutive days off.

Pay: £25,400.00-£28,400.00 per year
