Civils Supervisor – Setting Out

About the Role
Mallinson is seeking an experienced and practical Civils Supervisor to lead and support site activities across civils jobs, which include kerbing, setting out, fencing projects and concrete pours
This is a hands-on role, combining site supervision with active involvement in the day-to-day delivery of works. The successful candidate will be expected to work alongside operatives when required, carrying out setting out, assisting with installations and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
The role requires experience using setting-out equipment, including lasers and surveying instruments, together with the ability to use AutoCAD to review and interpret drawings. The successful candidate will also be flexible and willing to support other operational teams across the business during quieter periods within the civils division.
Key ResponsibilitiesSite Supervision & Delivery
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of direct labour and subcontractors.
- Take a hands-on approach and work alongside site teams.
- Assist with the installation of kerbing, fencing and associated civil works.
- Ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and in line with programme requirements.
- Allocate work and ensure operatives understand project specifications and quality standards.
Setting Out & Technical Duties
- Carry out accurate setting out for kerbing, fencing and associated civils projects.
- Use setting-out equipment such as laser levels, GPS equipment and surveying instruments to establish lines, levels, gradients and falls.
- Review and interpret drawings using AutoCAD and engineering plans.
- Ensure all works are constructed to the correct dimensions, levels and tolerances.
- Maintain accurate as-built information where required.
Health & Safety
- Promote a strong health and safety culture on site.
Quality & Materials Management
- Monitor workmanship and ensure high-quality finishes are achieved.
- Identify and rectify defects or issues during construction.
Communication & Teamwork
- Liaise with operations managers, clients, subcontractors and site teams.
- Provide leadership, guidance and support to operatives.
- Be willing to assist and work with other operational teams across the business during quieter periods within the civils department, supporting wider company activities as required.
Skills & QualificationsEssential
- Proven experience in a hands-on Civils Supervisor or Working Supervisor role.
- Experience in kerbing, fencing, groundworks and setting out.
- Competent in using lasers, surveying equipment and other setting-out tools.
- Ability to use AutoCAD to review and interpret drawings.
- SSSTS or SMSTS qualification.
- Strong understanding of health and safety requirements.
- Good organisational and communication skills.
- Flexible attitude with the willingness to support different teams and work across a variety of projects.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
- CSCS Card.
- First Aid qualification.
