Role Purpose
The Lecturer in Health & Social Care will play a key role in the delivery of the BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care with Foundation Year in Health, providing high‑quality teaching, learning and assessment across Foundation and undergraduate levels. The post holder will contribute to student success, curriculum development, academic quality, and progression into employment or further study within the health and social care sector.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching, Learning and Assessment
- Deliver high‑quality, inclusive teaching across the Foundation Year and Levels 4–6 of the BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care programme
- Plan, prepare and review schemes of work, lesson plans and learning materials that support progression from Foundation to degree‑level study
- Design, set, mark and internally moderate assessments in accordance with awarding body, QAA and institutional requirements
- Provide timely, constructive and developmental feedback to support student achievement and retention
- Embed academic skills, critical thinking, research literacy and professional practice throughout teaching delivery
Curriculum Development and Quality Assurance
- Ensure delivery aligns with QAA Subject Benchmark Statements, institutional policies, and relevant legislation
- Participate in internal and external quality assurance processes, including standardisation, monitoring and review activities
- Contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to Health and Social Care provision
Administrative and Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and timely student records, including attendance, achievement and progression
- Complete all associated academic and administrative duties effectively
- Engage fully in continuing professional development (CPD)
- Undertake duties appropriate to the grade of the post as reasonably required
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- Teaching qualification (e.g. PGCHE, MA in HE Practice, FHEA or equivalent)
- Master’s degree in health & social care or a closely related discipline (PhD desirable)
- Experience of teaching within Further Education and/or Higher Education
- Relevant professional qualifications and practical experience within the health and social care sector
- Ability to use ICT and digital technologies to enhance learning and engagement
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organisational, time‑management and administrative capabilities
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an academic team
Pay: £28,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Dagenham RM10: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
