£70 an hour sounds like £134,000 a year. You know it isn't.
Take off the van. The fuel. The insurance. Tools. The four weeks in July when the phone barely rang. The invoices from March you're still chasing. The holiday nobody paid you for.
Most self-employed engineers we speak to end up somewhere in the fifties, with no pension and no sick pay.
We're offering £58,000 base, £70 an hour on top for out-of-hours, and £7,500 of that out-of-hours guaranteed in your first year. If the work isn't there, we pay it anyway.
Pleasant Plumbers is an established London plumbing and heating company running on its own technology platform. Over 300 engineers have worked through our systems. We cover domestic and commercial across London, including a growing commercial contract book, and we're building a permanent employed engineering team.
What you get
- £58,000 base, paid weekly, every Friday, without chasing anyone
- £70 an hour out of hours on top — £80 commercial — and it rounds up, so a twenty-minute reset pays a full hour. £7,500 guaranteed in year one. Voluntary, and through payroll, so no invoicing.
- 10% of the labour value on any work you spot on site and the customer takes. Tracked live in the app, paid the Friday after they pay.
- Company van + fuel card — insured, taxed, maintained. Roughly £8,000 a year you're not spending.
- We fund your commercial tickets. COCN1 pathway paid for and booked inside your first six months. The month you pass, your base becomes £70,000 — written into your offer letter.
- 28 days holiday including bank holidays · company sick pay from day one · pension · £500/yr tool allowance · company iPhone · ACS renewals always covered
- Monday to Friday, 9am–6pm. Out of hours is voluntary — nothing averaged into your rota.
- Progression with a trigger, not a timeline: Engineer → Commercial Engineer (£70,000) → Lead Engineer (£76,000) → Field Supervisor. Every rung has a published criterion and a published number.
- No paperwork evenings. GPS dispatch, automatic timers, in-app forms, live earnings ledger.
The work
Full plumbing and heating across domestic and commercial — boiler repairs, servicing, installs, unvented, system work, bathrooms, leaks and drainage. Steady year-round volume dispatched through our platform. Full job history, photos and parts info in your hand before you arrive. No buying leads, no dead days, no chasing invoices.
You
- Gas Safe registered — CCN1 and CENWAT current
- Strong on the plumbing side as well as the gas — we want engineers who can take the whole job, not half of it
- Commercial tickets an advantage; if you haven't got them, we'll fund them
- London-based, full UK licence, own hand tools
- This matters as much as the gas: you'll be standing in someone's kitchen representing our name. We hire engineers customers ask for by name.
The process
We call every qualified applicant back within one working day — a person, not a portal. Technical assessment with our lead Gas Safe engineer. Then a paid trial day on the tools: full day's pay whatever we both decide, and an offer on the spot if it's a yes.
We verify your Gas Safe number on the register before the trial.
