Boarhunt Garage & Recovery Services Ltd is an established and growing vehicle recovery and fleet services business based in Fareham. We pride ourselves on delivering a high standard of service, operational efficiency and full compliance across our Rescue & Recovery Department.
We are seeking an experienced and driven Transport Operations Manager to oversee and develop our busy Vehicle Recovery Department.
The Role
This is a senior operational role responsible for managing the day-to-day performance, compliance, financial control and staffing of the Recovery Department. The successful candidate will ensure the department operates efficiently, remains compliant and continues to be a profitable division of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the daily operations of the Vehicle Recovery Department
- Oversee control room administration to ensure efficient and professional service delivery
- Plan and manage staff rotas in line with Drivers’ Hours and Working Time Regulations
- Coordinate fleet maintenance, MOT preparation, inspections, servicing and compliance
- Monitor departmental performance, supplier efficiencies and overall profitability
- Approve invoices and ensure subcontracted work remains commercially viable
- Produce monthly reports, cost analysis and annual budgets
- Ensure compliance with PAS43, LOLER and all relevant transport legislation
- Liaise with contract partners and manage commercial relationships
- Manage recruitment needs and employee matters in liaison with HR
- Resolve customer and supplier issues to a satisfactory conclusion
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the department
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience in transport, fleet, recovery or operations management
- Strong understanding of driver hours legislation and transport compliance
- Experience managing teams and operational rotas
- Commercial awareness with good financial oversight
- Confident decision-maker with strong organisational skills
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Strong IT skills (experience with transport management systems advantageous)
