ABOUT THE COACHMAN
The Coachman is one of the busiest hospitality venues in the area — a genuine multi-department operation built around a high-volume restaurant and bar, a lively public bar, a function suite hosting events year-round, and a run of bedrooms. Between them, our kitchens turn out around 2,500 meals a week. This is a big venue with a big team, and it runs at a pace to match.
We're looking for a General Manager who thrives on that pace — someone energised, not daunted, by a full diary, a packed function suite and a restaurant floor that rarely stops moving.
THE ROLE
As General Manager of The Coachman, you'll take full ownership of a venue with real scale and real complexity. This isn't a single-room operation — you're running a restaurant and bar, a public bar with its own regular crowd, a function suite carrying weddings and events, and bedrooms, all at once, all to a standard. You'll set the pace and the standard for a large, multi-department team, and you'll be the person guests, team members and suppliers look to for direction — every single day, at volume.
This is a hands-on, high-energy leadership role. You'll be on the floor through service, across departments, solving problems in real time — not managing 2,500 covers a week from behind a desk.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead all aspects of a high-volume, multi-department operation — restaurant and bar, public bar, function suite and bedrooms — to a consistently high standard
- Own the commercial and operational rhythm of a venue serving around 2,500 meals per week, keeping every department running at pace without dropping standards
- Build, coach and lead a large team across multiple departments — recruiting, training and developing people who can perform under volume
- Take full ownership of the function suite calendar, ensuring weddings and events are delivered flawlessly alongside day-to-day restaurant and bar trade
- Manage budgets, rotas and cost control across departments, and deliver against commercial and financial targets
- Maintain full compliance with licensing, health & safety, food safety and employment law across a complex, high-throughput venue
- Drive online reputation and guest satisfaction across every part of the business — restaurant, bar, functions and rooms
- Act as the visible, energetic leader of The Coachman — setting the tone for a fast-moving, high-volume team
