This is an excellent opportunity for someone from a Fire System, HGV, plant, agricultural, mechanical or heavy engineering background who is looking for a varied and interesting role working with specialist firefighting vehicles and equipment.
Previous experience in the fire industry is not essential. If you have strong mechanical skills, can diagnose and repair equipment, and have good fabrication and welding experience, we are interested in hearing from you.
The role combines workshop-based and field-based engineering, fabrication and welding with the servicing, maintenance and repair of firefighting vehicles, pumps and associated specialist equipment. You will also travel to customer sites throughout the UK when required.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your work will be varied and will include:
· Servicing, maintaining and repairing firefighting vehicles, fire pumps and associated equipment.
· Diagnosing mechanical faults and carrying out effective repairs.

· Fabricating and assembling metal components from drawings and specifications.
· Carrying out welding and fabrication work to a high standard.
· Cutting, shaping, preparing and joining metal using appropriate workshop equipment, hand tools and power tools.
· Modifying and repairing existing equipment and components where required.
· Inspecting completed work to ensure it meets required quality and safety standards.
· Reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.

· Working at our Eaglescliffe workshop and customer sites throughout the UK.
· Completing accurate service, maintenance and inspection documentation.
· Working closely with customers and other members of the engineering team.
· Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment.
· Participating in on-call arrangements.

· Mechanical engineering
· Heavy engineering
· Pump servicing and maintenance

· Strong practical mechanical knowledge.
· Experience servicing, maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment or vehicles.
· Good fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
· Fabrication and welding experience.
· Ability to work from technical drawings and specifications.
· Experience using workshop machinery, hand tools, power tools and welding equipment.
· Good measurement and basic maths skills.
· High standards of workmanship and attention to detail.
· A practical, can-do approach to engineering problems.
· Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
· Good communication skills and a professional manner when dealing with customers.
· A strong understanding of workplace health and safety.
· Willingness to travel to customer sites throughout the UK when required.
Why This Role?
If you’re currently working in HGV maintenance, plant engineering, agricultural engineering, fabrication or another mechanical engineering environment, this is an opportunity to use those skills in a more specialist and varied role.
Rather than working on the same type of vehicle or equipment every day, you’ll be involved with a broad range of specialist firefighting equipment, vehicles, pumps and engineering projects.
You’ll have the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge within the firefighting sector while using the mechanical, fabrication and fault-finding skills you already have.
Fire industry experience is an advantage, but it isn’t a requirement. We’re more interested in finding someone with the right engineering ability, practical skills and attitude.
If you’re an experienced engineer who enjoys solving problems, working with your hands and taking pride in doing a job properly, we’d like to hear from you.
