We’re looking for a Welder / Fabricator to join our busy manufacturing team making metal fixtures and equipment for some of the UK’s best-known retailers.
This isn’t heavy structural fabrication and we don’t need coded welders. Most of the work involves accurate tacking, short MIG/TIG welds, assembly and dressing of sheet-metal components.
What makes the job interesting is the variety.
We manufacture lots of different products, often in relatively small batches, from detailed engineering drawings. One day you could be building a display stand, the next a checkout component, cabinet or piece of bespoke retail equipment.
The welding itself may be straightforward. Getting everything square, accurate, clean and looking excellent is where the skill comes in.
What you'll be doing
- MIG and TIG welding of mild steel and other fabricated components
- Tacking and assembling parts accurately from engineering drawings
- Working with laser-cut and folded sheet-metal components
- Checking dimensions, angles and overall quality as you work
- Grinding, linishing and dressing welds to achieve a high-quality finish
- Producing neat, consistent work suitable for customer-facing retail environments
- Working closely with our fabrication, laser, press brake and production teams
- Moving between different products and jobs rather than endlessly producing the same component
What we're looking for
You don’t need welding codes or exotic qualifications.
We’re much more interested in someone who:
- Can MIG weld confidently; TIG experience is useful
- Can read and understand engineering drawings
- Has good fabrication and assembly skills
- Understands the importance of squareness, dimensions and tolerances
- Takes pride in producing clean, tidy work
- Can work at a good pace without sacrificing quality
- Is comfortable working on varied jobs and solving the occasional problem
- Gets on well with other people and enjoys being part of a busy workshop
Experience in sheet-metal fabrication would be particularly useful.
What the job is like
We have a busy, lively factory where people talk to each other, help each other and get things made.
Our products are highly visible once they leave us, so appearance matters. A weld doesn't just need to hold—it needs to form part of a finished product that may end up in a major retailer's store.
If you enjoy fabrication, like seeing finished products come together and would rather work on a changing mix of jobs than spend all day doing repetitive production welding, you’ll probably enjoy it here.
