I am looking for a reliable, experienced and compassionate Support Worker to provide 1:1 support to an adult with autism, cerebral palsy and independent living needs.
This role is focused on helping me build confidence, maintain routines, develop daily living skills, and access the local community. Support will include practical help at home, encouragement with independence, and assistance attending appointments, social activities, volunteering, training or employment opportunities.
The right person will be calm, patient, consistent and able to build trust over time. This role is best suited to someone with previous experience in adult support work, neurodiversity, community support, or independent living.
This is a direct 1:1 support role, not an agency-style position. Consistency, reliability and a respectful working relationship are essential.
Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 personalised support focused on independence, confidence and wellbeing
- Support me to access the local community, including appointments, shopping, social activities and opportunities for volunteering, training or work
- Encourage development of daily living skills, including meal planning, cooking, household routines and maintaining a safe home environment
- Provide gentle prompting and encouragement with personal care routines where needed
- Help me plan activities, structure my week and manage changes to routine
- Support safe and appropriate social interaction in community settings
- Work in a calm, respectful and person-centred way
- Maintain clear boundaries while building a positive and trusted working relationship
- Maintain confidentiality and follow safeguarding principles at all times
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year’s experience in a support worker, personal assistant, community support or similar care role
- Experience supporting autistic or neurodivergent adults
- Able to work independently without close supervision
- Reliable, punctual and able to commit to regular weekly hours
- Calm, patient and emotionally mature approach
- Good communication skills
- Understanding of professional boundaries, confidentiality and safeguarding
- Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma/NVQ in Health and Social Care is desirable
- Driver with access to a car is desirable
Hours and Pay
- 17 hours per week
- £13.00 – £14.50 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
- Working pattern to be agreed mutually
