About the Role
Elgin Market is looking for a friendly, reliable, and customer-focused Retail Sales Assistant to join our team. You will play a key part in the day-to-day running of the shop, serving customers, keeping shelves stocked and tidy, and making sure the store is a welcoming place to visit.
No previous retail experience is required. We are happy to train the right person. A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and good work ethic are what matter most.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve customers in a polite, friendly, and efficient manner
- Operate the till and handle cash and card transactions accurately
- Receive and check in stock deliveries and organise shelves
- Rotate stock and check for out-of-date items
- Label and price products as required
- Carry out routine cleaning tasks to keep the shop floor, counter, and stockroom clean and presentable
- Assist with opening and closing duties where required
- Report any issues with stock, equipment, or customer concerns to the manager
What We Are Looking For
- Good communication skills and a helpful, can-do attitude
- Reliable, punctual, and honest , you will be handling stock and cash daily
- Comfortable handling cash and using a till
- Able to work well both independently and as part of a small team
- Physically able to lift and move stock when needed
- Must be available to work weekends
Desirable (Not Essential)
- Previous retail, shop, or customer service experience
- Basic stock management or EPOS till experience
Hours & Contract
This is a zero-hours contract, meaning hours are offered based on the needs of the business. We typically offer between 16 and 40 hours per week. Weekend availability is essential.
Pay
- Starting pay: £12.71 per hour, with gradual increases over time
- On-the-job training provided
