About the Pankhurst Trust (incorporating Manchester Women's Aid)
The Pankhurst Trust brings together The Pankhurst Centre and Manchester Women's Aid.
We work together to ensure the story of the women who won the vote continues to inspire us all, and to ensure that those experiencing domestic violence and abuse get the confidential help they need. We are a group of female champions, empowering women across Manchester and beyond.
About the Role
As Housekeeper within our Refuge Service, you will play an important role in creating a safe, clean and welcoming environment for women and children who are accessing refuge support. You will help ensure communal areas, facilities and accommodation are maintained to a high standard, supporting residents to feel comfortable, respected and safe during their time with us.
You will be responsible for maintaining the day-to-day housekeeping standards of the refuge, completing health and safety checks, preparing rooms for new residents and identifying any maintenance issues or repairs that need attention. You will work closely with refuge colleagues to ensure the building remains a safe and supportive place for women and children.
This is a practical and rewarding role, ideal for someone who takes pride in their work, has a strong eye for detail and is passionate about creating positive environments where people feel valued and supported. You will be joining a team committed to providing safe accommodation and compassionate support for survivors of domestic abuse.
Please note this role is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Check.
What you'll be doing:
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and presentation across communal areas and shared facilities within the refuge.
- Preparing rooms and accommodation to a safe and welcoming standard for new residents.
- Completing routine health and safety checks, including fire safety checks, emergency lighting checks and maintaining accurate records.
- Identifying and reporting repairs, maintenance issues and potential hazards, and following up where appropriate.
- Supporting the safe use and upkeep of communal facilities, including the laundry room and other shared spaces.
- Monitoring housekeeping supplies, maintaining stock levels and ordering items when needed.
- Completing regular flat checks and reporting any concerns or issues to the appropriate refuge colleagues.
- Supporting residents with practical housekeeping queries and providing advice in a respectful and appropriate way.
- Completing required building checks, meter readings and other routine tasks to support the smooth running of the refuge.
- Working collaboratively with refuge colleagues to maintain a safe, welcoming and trauma-informed environment for women and children.
