North Star Day Nursery, part of Grandir UK, is looking for an enthusiastic and organised Nursery Chef to join our brand-new, purpose-built setting in Welwyn. This is a fantastic opportunity to make our new kitchen your own and play an important part in providing children with fresh, nutritious and delicious meals every day.

About Our Nursery
North Star is an exciting, brand-new, purpose-built day nursery in Welwyn, thoughtfully designed to provide children with a safe, stimulating and welcoming environment.
The nursery offers bright, modern learning spaces where children can explore their interests and develop confidence through play. Children will also benefit from a dedicated garden, nutritious meals freshly prepared by our on-site chef and Grandir UK’s established early years curriculum and educational programmes.
As our Nursery Chef, you will be an important part of the nursery team. Your meals will support children’s health, wellbeing and development while helping them build a positive relationship with food from an early age.
Location and Travel
North Star Day Nursery is located at 82 Great North Road, Oaklands, Welwyn, Hertfordshire, AL6 0TA.
Its location on Great North Road provides convenient access for those travelling from Welwyn, Welwyn Garden City, Stevenage and the surrounding Hertfordshire areas. The nursery is also well positioned for access to the A1(M).
What Will You Be Doing?
- Preparing and cooking fresh, nutritious and balanced meals and snacks for children
- Planning varied menus that meet the nutritional needs of babies and young children
- Carefully accommodating allergies, intolerances and individual dietary requirements
- Maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness throughout the kitchen
- Following all relevant health and safety procedures and completing the required kitchen records
- Managing food orders, deliveries, stock levels and kitchen supplies
- Reducing food waste and managing ingredients effectively
- Working closely with the Nursery Manager and wider team to meet the needs of every child
- Supporting children to develop a positive and healthy relationship with food
- Ensuring the kitchen is prepared for environmental health and other regulatory inspections
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience working as a chef or cook
- A good understanding of food hygiene, allergies and dietary requirements
- Knowledge of healthy and balanced nutrition
- Excellent organisation and time-management skills
- The ability to work independently and manage a busy kitchen
- A positive, friendly and flexible approach
- A genuine interest in preparing nutritious meals for babies and young children
- A relevant food hygiene qualification is desirable
