Hours: 35 Hours Per Week, Mon – Fri
Contract: Temporary (3 August 2026 – 31 October 2026)
Location: Civic Centre, Merton, SM4 5DX
Pay: £21 per hour
We're recruiting a Housing Options Advisor to support the London Borough of Merton. This is a frontline housing role, ideal for someone with strong knowledge of housing legislation, excellent communication skills, and the ability to support residents at risk of homelessness.
About the Role
As a Housing Options Advisor, you'll provide essential advice and support to residents, assessing homelessness applications, preventing homelessness through proactive housing options, and ensuring compliance with statutory duties under the Housing Act 1996 (Part 7).
What You'll Be Doing
- Interview and assess homeless applicants
- Promote housing options to prevent homelessness
- Determine statutory duties under the Housing Act 1996, Part 7
- Advise those threatened with homelessness to prevent crisis situations
- Assess entitlements of single non-priority homeless people
- Participate in outreach work such as advice surgeries
- Provide advice to private sector tenants
What We're Looking For
We're seeking someone with:
- Experience in housing advice or homelessness prevention
- Strong knowledge of housing legislation and statutory duties
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage sensitive cases with empathy and professionalism
- Organisational skills to manage caseloads effectively
