Role Overview
Tufcot is looking for a proactive and commercially minded Business Development Lead to drive our next phase of growth. This is a high-impact role designed for a "hunter" who enjoys the challenge of identifying new opportunities while maintaining the high standards of service our existing global customers expect.
You will work directly with the CEO to implement sales strategies, turning enquiries into orders, and leads into long-term partnerships and an active distributor network. You will have the autonomy to make the role your own.
While primarily office-based, the role has scope to develop, and you will be the face of Tufcot at key industry exhibitions and during occasional UK and international client visits.
Key Responsibilities
1. Proactive Sales & Growth
● Lead Generation: Actively identify and contact potential new customers in core sectors.
● Quote Conversion: Take ownership of the quotation pipeline, following up on enquiries with a customer-focused approach to maximise conversion rates.
● Strategy Implementation: Collaborate with the CEO to turn broad sales strategies into actionable growth plans.
2. Account Management & Relationships
● Key Account Growth: Maintain and develop relationships with existing customers to ensure loyalty and identify up-selling opportunities.
● Technical Liaison: Work closely with our internal Technical Team to ensure customers receive the best material recommendations for their specific applications.
● Communication: Respond promptly and professionally to all incoming sales emails and phone enquiries.
3. Independent Representation
● Exhibitions: Represent Tufcot at trade shows and industry events, including managing the stand, capturing leads and following up.
● Client Visits: Conduct occasional UK-based site visits and overseas trips as the role evolves to strengthen key partnerships.
● Reporting: Provide regular updates to the CEO on sales performance, market trends, and potential areas for future development.
The Ideal Candidate
● Proactive Mindset: You don’t wait for the phone to ring; you are comfortable picking it up to follow up on a quote or introduce Tufcot to a new prospect.
● Technical Aptitude: While you don't need to be a polymer scientist, you must be able to learn our material range and understand how our products solve engineering problems.
● Self-Sufficient: You are comfortable working independently, managing your own diary, and taking ownership of your targets.
● Communication Skills: You can talk to anyone—from a workshop manager to a senior director—with confidence and clarity.
● Experience: Previous experience in a technical sales or business development role (ideally within engineering or manufacturing) is highly advantageous.
