Pay: £14.87 per hour (Travel allowance provided)
Hours: 73.5 hours per week – 10.5hrs per day
Rotation: 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off

Set in the beautiful surroundings of Fort Augustus in the Scottish Highlands, this is a unique opportunity to work in a truly stunning and remote location. Situated at the southwestern tip of Loch Ness in the Great Glen, the village is renowned for its iconic canal locks and breath taking Highland setting, perfectly positioned between Inverness and Fort William.
Role Overview
As a Commis Chef, you will support the Chef/Head Chef in preparing and cooking high-quality dishes in line with company recipes and standards, helping to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations. Beyond technical delivery, your role is central to creating a positive and memorable resident experience. Through well-presented, thoughtfully prepared meals and a consistent focus on quality, you will help create an environment where residents feel welcomed, cared for, and able to relax and recharge.
You will contribute to a kitchen culture that values pride in presentation, attention to detail, and a genuine passion for service, supporting themed dining occasions and experience-led catering that bring variety and enjoyment to village life. By engaging positively with residents during service and working collaboratively with the wider team, you will play an important part in shaping a warm, inclusive atmosphere that reflects a true “home-from-home” experience.
What you’ll do:

Assist with preparing and cooking dishes to agreed recipes, standards, and portion sizes

Ensure timely service of all meals and maintain high food quality and presentation

Follow strict food hygiene standards, including temperature control and record keeping

Carry out stock rotation and help reduce waste

Support menu preparation and development

Assist in supervising and supporting junior kitchen staff

Ensure all kitchen equipment is used safely, cleaned, and maintained; report faults

Maintain personal hygiene and comply with Health & Safety and COSHH regulations

Report incidents, complaints, and food safety issues promptly
-
Support training, team development, and daily kitchen operations

Assist with efficient use of resources and cost control

Carry out additional duties as required

Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors on daily operations

Support a positive team environment and promote the company’s standards and reputation

Respond to customer feedback and assist in resolving service issues where required
What you’ll bring:

City & Guilds 706/1 & 706/2 (or equivalent qualification)

Food Hygiene Certificate (REHIS or equivalent)
-
Minimum 1 year experience in a similar catering role
