MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Commercial Specialist plays a key role in supporting the execution of the customer commercial strategy through accurate, data-led pricing and commercial analysis. The role is responsible for maintaining customer-specific pricing, website pricing, minimum sell price controls, non-core pricing, and campaign pricing in line with agreed business and marketing strategies.
Working closely with Category, Marketing, and Customer Account Management, the Commercial Specialist provides pricing insight and commercial recommendations to support customer RFQs, negotiations, bids and tenders, and range pricing decisions. The role contributes to improving profitability, maintaining competitiveness, and ensuring pricing activity is executed consistently and in line with governance.
Through strong analytical capability, attention to detail, and commercial acumen, the Commercial Specialist supports informed decision-making and the effective delivery of commercial outcomes across the business.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Proactively identify and support opportunities to improve profitability, working with key stakeholders to balance margin, competitiveness, and customer requirements.
Manage customer-specific pricing files, including scheduled price reviews and ad-hoc pricing activity, ensuring accuracy and timely execution.
Maintain website pricing in line with agreed commercial strategy and governance.
Maintain non-core pricing, minimum sell price controls, and campaign pricing in line with business strategy and marketing activity.
Price customer RFQs and provide clear commercial recommendations, including advice on deal structure, pricing options, and overall commerciality.
Maintain competitor product matching data to support informed pricing decisions and market competitiveness.
Execute commercial tasks linked to customer contracts, ensuring pricing and commercial terms are applied accurately.
Support customer negotiation ideation and approach by providing pricing insight, analysis, and commercial input.
Work closely with the Category team to support range price reviews and ensure alignment with range strategy and market dynamics.
Collaborate with Marketing to support the setup and execution of campaign pricing.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Experience gained in a commercial support, pricing, or analytical role, with a minimum of two years in a commercially focused environment.
Strong understanding of how pricing and commercial decisions impact profitability and customer outcomes.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with the ability to analyse, interpret, and manipulate data to support pricing and commercial insight.
Experience with analytical languages such as SQL and Python is highly desirable.
Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with a range of internal stakeholders.
Clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling effective contribution to commercial discussions.
A process-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to pricing governance.
Strong commercial acumen, with the confidence to question data, challenge assumptions, and support improved commercial outcomes.
