Priority Care Group is looking for an experienced, practical and reliable Maintenance Technician / Maintenance Engineer to join our Estates Team.
This is a permanent, full-time position working across our care homes and associated properties in Dundee, Angus and Perthshire.
You will work alongside our Senior Maintenance Technician as part of an established estates team, helping us maintain safe, well-presented and well-functioning environments for our residents and staff.
Please Note: Unfortunately, we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role. Applicants must have an existing right to work in the UK.
The role
This is a varied, hands-on position covering both reactive and planned maintenance across our properties.
No two days will necessarily be the same. You could be repairing a door or plumbing fault in the morning, carrying out planned compliance checks in the afternoon, or working alongside contractors on a larger estates project.
Typical responsibilities will include:
- General reactive building maintenance and repairs
- Planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
- Joinery and general building repairs
- Doors, locks, ironmongery and furniture repairs
- Minor decorating and making good
- Identifying and reporting electrical, heating and mechanical faults
- Fire door inspections and associated remedial works
- Routine health safety and compliance checks
- Emergency lighting and other scheduled estates checks
- Monitoring plant rooms and building services
- Responding to maintenance requests from Home Managers
- Completing maintenance records and signing off completed work
- Identifying when specialist contractors are required
- Liaising with approved contractors where appropriate
- Supporting larger planned maintenance and improvement projects
- Maintaining good standards of presentation throughout our properties
Properties covered
The Dundee/Tayside Estates Team currently provides maintenance support to:
- Harestane Care Home – Dundee
- St Columba’s Care Home – Dundee
- Priority Care Head Office – Dundee
- Meigle Country House – Meigle
- St Vigeans Care Home – Arbroath
Drumdarroch Care Home in Insch has its own dedicated full-time maintenance person and is not part of the normal day-to-day workload for this position.
What we’re looking for
We are looking for someone who is genuinely multi-skilled and hands-on.
You don’t necessarily need to come from one particular trade, but you should have good practical experience in property or building maintenance and be comfortable dealing with a wide variety of everyday maintenance issues.
Experience in any of the following would be particularly useful:
- General building maintenance
- Facilities or estates maintenance
- Care home, healthcare, hotel or similar multi-site environments
- Planned preventative maintenance
- Building compliance and safety checks
You should be able to assess a problem, work out the most sensible solution and complete repairs to a good standard.
Just as importantly, we’re looking for someone who is organised, dependable and comfortable working around residents and staff.
Working as part of the Estates Team
You will work closely with our Senior Maintenance Technician, with both engineers having their own company van and working across the estate.
The wider team also includes dedicated painting/decorating and grounds maintenance personnel.
We deliberately operate the maintenance engineers independently for much of the working week rather than having two people travelling together unnecessarily. This allows us to provide better coverage and visibility across our homes.
For larger jobs, projects or tasks requiring two people, the engineers work together.
On-call
The role will also participate in the Estates Team’s shared out-of-hours on-call rota, providing emergency maintenance support outside normal working hours.
On-call is shared across the wider maintenance team rather than being the responsibility of one individual.
Separate standby and call-out arrangements apply.
What we offer
- Permanent full-time employment
- Monday to Friday working pattern
- Salary: TBA depending on experience
- Varied multi-site working environment
- Support from an experienced Senior Maintenance Technician and Estates Manager
- Established network of specialist contractors
- Opportunity to become an important part of the wider Estates Team
- A role with genuine variety and autonomy
Essential
- Previous practical maintenance/building experience
- Good general DIY and repair skills
- Ability to work independently and manage your own workload
- Good fault-finding and problem-solving ability
- Reliable and organised approach
- Comfortable working in occupied care environments
Experience within care homes or healthcare would be useful but is not essential.
We’re much more interested in finding someone with the right practical ability, attitude and willingness to take ownership of their sites.
Pre-employment checks
A PVG disclosure check will be carried out for the successful candidate before employment is confirmed. The appointment will also be subject to satisfactory references and any other required pre-employment checks.
