JNJ Detailing Ltd – Halesowen, Birmingham
Full-time, permanent
Monday to Friday, 8:00am–5:30pm
Pay: £50,000+ OTE
Strong base salary + performance-related earning potential
Join JNJ as the Technical Leader of Our PPF Team
JNJ Detailing is a fast-growing premium automotive protection business looking for an exceptional Lead PPF Installer / PPF Installation Manager to become the most senior technical installer within our PPF department.
This is a hands-on installation role.
You must already be a highly experienced professional PPF installer.
You will personally install PPF to a high standard while also becoming the person other installers turn to when they need technical help, guidance or training.
We are looking for someone who is already one of the strongest installers within their current company and is ready for more responsibility, progression and earning potential.
This role is approximately:
70–80% hands-on PPF installation
20–30% technical leadership, training and installer support
If you want a management title so you can stop installing, this role is not suitable.
If you are an elite installer who wants to become the technical leader of a growing PPF operation, this could be the opportunity for you.

- Range Rover
- BMW M
- Mercedes-AMG
- Audi RS
- Other premium and performance manufacturers
Our goal is not to remain a small detailing studio.
We are building a significantly larger premium vehicle-protection business and need exceptional people who want to grow with it.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to become a major part of the next stage of JNJ.
The Role
You will become the technical leader of JNJ’s PPF installation department.
Your first responsibility is to produce exceptional PPF installations yourself.
Your second responsibility is to help raise the standard of the installers around you.
When another installer is struggling with a difficult bumper, panel, pattern, stretch, edge or installation problem, you should have the experience to understand what is going wrong and help them solve it.
You will also work closely with the General Manager and provide an accurate technical view of how the installation department is progressing.
You will help identify:
- Which jobs are on track
- Which installations are falling behind
- Why an installer is struggling
- Where technical support is required
- Where another installer or helper should assist
- Recurring quality issues
- Training requirements
- Whether completion deadlines remain realistic
- Problems that need escalating before they affect the customer
The General Manager remains responsible for the overall workshop operation.
You will be responsible for helping ensure the technical PPF operation performs at the required standard.
Hands-On PPF Installation
You must already be highly confident with:
- Full-car PPF
- Full-front PPF
- Track-pack PPF
- Gloss PPF
- Satin / stealth PPF
- Complex front bumpers
- Rear bumpers
- Mirrors
- Spoilers
- Wings
- Doors
- Quarter panels
- Bonnets
- Large and difficult panels
- Pre-cut pattern installations
- Bulk PPF installation
- Wrapped edges
- Corners and detailed finishing
- Correct film alignment
- Stretch and tension control
- Troubleshooting
- Rework
- Final installation inspection
You should be capable of completing premium PPF installations independently with minimal technical supervision.
JNJ Quality Standard
We care more about the quality of your work than simply how many years you have been installing.
Your work must stand up to close inspection.
You should consistently control:
- Contamination
- Silvering
- Air bubbles
- Fingers
- Lifting
- Stretch marks
- Misalignment
- Edge failures
- Poor coverage
- Visible edges
- Poorly finished corners
We expect:
- Clean wrapped edges where appropriate
- Accurate alignment
- Controlled stretch
- Excellent corners
- Minimal contamination
- Consistent coverage
- Safe working around paint and trim
- Strong self-QC before the vehicle progresses
Quality is non-negotiable.
However, JNJ is also a commercial workshop.
You must be able to achieve high quality and strong output at the same time.
We are not looking for rushed installations that create rework.
We are equally not looking for someone who takes significantly longer than necessary to achieve a good result.
The right person understands both quality and efficiency.
Leading the Installation Team
You will be the person other installers can approach when they need technical support.
You will:
- Assist installers with difficult panels
- Diagnose technical installation problems
- Demonstrate better techniques
- Help installers improve rather than simply taking the panel away from them
- Provide constructive technical feedback
- Help developing installers progress
- Improve bulk-fitting capability
- Improve pattern-installation ability
- Improve edge and corner finishing
- Reduce unnecessary stretch
- Identify recurring QC problems
- Help reduce rework
- Encourage installers to self-QC their work
- Help maintain consistent standards across the department
Your objective is not to make everyone dependent on you.
Your objective is to make the whole installation team better.
Training & Developing Installers
You must be able to communicate, not simply install.
Part of your role will involve helping train and develop other installers.
This may include:
- Difficult bumper technique
- Bulk installation
- Pattern placement
- Correct stretch
- Film tension
- Edge wrapping
- Corner finishing
- Defect diagnosis
- Slip and tack control
- Rework prevention
- Installation planning
- Improving speed
- Self-QC
A great Lead Installer does not simply say:
“That’s wrong.”
They can explain:
What is wrong, why it happened and how to prevent it happening again.
Working With the General Manager
You will work closely with JNJ’s General Manager.
The General Manager needs an accurate picture of what is happening technically within the PPF department.
You will regularly communicate:
- How each installation is progressing
- Which installers are on track
- Which installers are falling behind
- Why somebody is struggling
- Where technical assistance is required
- Where additional installer/helper support may be beneficial
- Whether completion dates remain achievable
- Recurring installation issues
- Training requirements
- Quality concerns
- Technical blockers
Problems should be raised early.
Not when the customer is due to collect.
If an installer is falling behind, you should be able to explain:
- Why they are behind
- What remains to be completed
- Whether the issue is technical or performance-related
- Whether they need help
- Who would be best placed to assist
- Whether the completion deadline can realistically be recovered
You may also advise the General Manager on installer/helper allocation where your technical knowledge is valuable.
Lead by Example
This is the most senior hands-on PPF installation position within JNJ.
That seniority needs to be demonstrated through your behaviour as well as your technical ability.
You will be expected to lead through:
- Installation quality
- Work rate
- Reliability

- Communication
- Organisation
- Accountability
- Willingness to help others
- Professionalism
We do not want somebody who uses their experience to criticise developing installers or create negativity.
