As our business continues to grow, we're looking for an experienced FIRAS Carpenter to join our expanding team, working across secure sites throughout the region.
The Role
We're looking for an experienced and motivated FIRAS Carpenter with a strong background in fire door installation, maintenance, inspections, and remedial works.
This is a mobile role where you'll work independently across multiple secure sites including HM Prisons, Hospitals, and other government facilities, carrying out planned maintenance, reactive repairs, and fire door compliance works.
You'll be trusted to deliver work to the highest standards while ensuring all installations meet current fire safety regulations and FIRAS requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Fire Door Installation & Maintenance
- Install, repair and maintain fire doors in accordance with FIRAS standards.
- Carry out fire door inspections and remedial works.
- Replace door furniture including closers, hinges, seals, locks and ironmongery.
- Complete upgrades to existing fire doors to achieve compliance.
- Ensure all work complies with current fire safety legislation and manufacturer specifications.
General Carpentry
- First and second fix carpentry.
- Door frame repairs and replacements.
- Skirting, architraves and general joinery.
- Minor building fabric repairs where required.
- Support wider maintenance teams on multi-trade projects.
Compliance & Safety
- Work in accordance with prison and site-specific security procedures.
- Maintain company tools, PPE and van stock.
- Ensure accurate documentation and certification is completed for all fire door works.
Communication & Reporting
- Liaise professionally with site management, prison estates teams and office staff.
- Provide clear reports on completed works and any additional defects identified.
- Use digital job management software (training provided).
What You'll Need
Essential
- FIRAS accredited experience or proven fire door installation experience.
- Excellent knowledge of fire door regulations and compliance.
- Experience carrying out inspections and remedial works.
- Ability to work independently across multiple sites.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications/Desirables
- FIRAS Certification. (Training can be provided)
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Carpentry & Joinery. (Required)
- First Aid at Work. (Training can be provided)
- E1 / E2 / CTC Vetting (advantageous but support can be provided).
