You will bring experience of working in a private sector housing team with prior knowledge of selective and additional licensing, alongside a strong understanding of what it means to deliver a high-quality, customer-facing service in a regulatory environment. You’re comfortable responding to complaints from members of the public, stakeholders and elected members, both in writing and in person, handling sensitive issues with professionalism and care.
You’ll have experience building trusted relationships quickly, even in challenging or emotionally charged situations. You know how to de-escalate conflict, provide clear education and advice, and use regulatory powers proportionately to effect positive change. You’re confident working with a range of agencies and professionals, building effective partnerships that improve public health and deliver excellent customer service.
Your experience in case management will come in handy, including gathering information and evidence to support legal action, and a sound understanding of the rules of evidence and court proceedings. You’re able to explain legislation, procedures and requirements clearly, helping others understand their responsibilities and the consequences of non-compliance.
Your interpersonal skills will be a real strength. You can listen carefully to different points of view, influence behaviour through knowledge and guidance, and remain calm and constructive when dealing with difficult situations. You’re able to assess risk, judge the right level of intervention, and make timely decisions that reduce risk and protect the public.
You’ll have strong written communication skills and the ability to document activity and outcomes clearly and accurately in correspondence and evidence. You’re well organised, able to plan and manage your workload to agreed targets and standards, and comfortable working with minimal supervision while out in the community – knowing when and how to escalate risk.
You’ll be confident building close working relationships with teams across and beyond the Council, contributing to shared aims and service objectives. You’ll also bring good IT skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and a willingness to use handheld technology to record information, manage tasks and respond to customers while working across the city.
