A leading London Market insurer is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead its Financial Accounting & Reporting function. Reporting directly to the CFO, this is a high-profile leadership role with responsibility for statutory, regulatory, management and group reporting, while driving financial control, governance and continuous improvement across the finance function.
This role offers the chance to become a key member of the finance leadership team, working closely with senior stakeholders across Finance, Actuarial and the wider business. You'll play a pivotal role in ensuring robust financial reporting, maintaining a strong control environment and supporting strategic transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Control
- Lead the production of monthly management accounts, providing insightful analysis and commentary on financial performance.
- Oversee the month-end close process and maintain the integrity of the general ledger.
- Take ownership of insurance and reinsurance accounting, including balance sheet reconciliations.
- Lead the preparation of statutory accounts under FRS 102 and FRS 103.
- Manage the external audit process, acting as the primary contact for auditors.
- Deliver quarterly IFRS 17 reporting for group consolidation.
- Support budgeting and forecasting alongside the FP&A team.
Regulatory Reporting & Technical Accounting
- Lead the production and submission of Solvency UK regulatory returns.
- Manage regulatory reporting requirements for overseas regulators where applicable.
- Work closely with actuarial colleagues on reserving, technical provisions and IFRS 17 calculations.
Leadership & Transformation
- Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing financial reporting team.
- Drive process improvements and strengthen financial controls across the organisation.
- Support finance transformation initiatives, systems enhancements and reporting improvements.
Desired background
You'll be a technically strong qualified accountant with significant post-qualified experience gained within the London Market or wider general insurance sector.
- ACA, ACCA or equivalent qualification.
- Extensive experience across statutory, management and group reporting.
- Strong technical knowledge of FRS 102/103 and Solvency UK reporting.
- Experience working closely with actuarial teams on reserving and technical provisions.
- A track record of strengthening financial controls and governance.
- Experience leading finance teams and developing talent.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Previous exposure to finance transformation or systems improvement projects.
- London Market or general insurance experience is essential.
