Job Title: Duty and Compliance Manager
Contract: Full-time permanent contract of 37.5 hours per week to be worked Monday – Sunday scheduled on a three-week rolling rota
Reports to: Head of Operations
Salary: Range of £27,000 - £30,000 per annum based on experience.
Role Purpose
The Duty and Compliance Manager is part of the management team and provides leadership and oversight of daily operations at Farnham Maltings, ensuring the safe, efficient and high-quality delivery of all activity across the site.
The role is responsible for leading and supporting the Duty Team, overseeing the Maintenance function, and ensuring the effective stewardship of a complex Grade II listed building. The Duty and Compliance Manager has a key role in maintaining operational standards, supporting compliance, and enabling both commercial and community activity to thrive.
The role operates as part of the Operations Team—providing leadership, coordination and oversight, while maintaining a regular on-the-ground presence.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Team Management Lead, support and develop the Duty Team, ensuring high standards of performance, professionalism and customer experience Provide day-to-day leadership and coordination across operational shifts Support the development of team capability, confidence and decision-making Contribute to effective rota planning and resource allocation.
2. Operations Oversight Oversee the effective delivery of events, hires and public programme activity Ensure operational readiness across all areas of the site Monitor the effectiveness of operational processes and implement improvements where needed Act as an escalation point for operational issues and incidents
3. Building & Facilities Management Take day-to-day responsibility for the stewardship of the Farnham Maltings building Work closely with the Maintenance function to ensure a proactive and planned approach to upkeep, including Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) Act as a key liaison with contractors and service providers Support a “fabric first” approach appropriate to a Grade II listed building, ensuring preservation alongside functionality
4. Compliance & Safety Support and oversee compliance with all relevant health & safety, first aid, and fire safety Ensure Duty Team members are trained, confident and compliant with safety procedures Maintain oversight of risk assessments and safe systems of work Act as a responsible person/key holder as required
5. Operational Presence Maintain a regular and visible presence on the floor to stay connected to the day-to-day operation Undertake duty management shifts where appropriate to support the team and maintain operational insight Build strong working relationships across all departments
6. Continuous Improvement & Strategic Contribution Contribute to the ongoing development of the Operations function Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, resilience and service quality Support the evolution of team structures and operational models in response to organisational needs
Person Specification (Summary)
Essential:
Experience in operations or venue management (arts/culture or similar multi-use environment desirable)
Strong leadership and team management skills
Sound understanding of health & safety and compliance responsibilities
Ability to manage complex, multi-use buildings and competing priorities
Strong problem-solving and decision-making capability
Ability to move heavy loads. (Manual Handling training will be provided)
Desirable:
Experience working in a heritage or listed building
Knowledge of event operations and public programme delivery
Experience managing maintenance or facilities functions
Pay: £27,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
