Overview
At The Mericourt Nursery, we are looking for a dedicated and experienced Head Chef to join our caring and professional nursery team. Our nursery provides freshly prepared, balanced meals daily for children aged 0–5 years, and we are proud of our commitment to healthy eating and high-quality care.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare healthy, balanced meals and snacks for children in line with dietary requirements and allergy management policies.
- Maintain high standards of hygiene, safety, and cleanliness in the kitchen, ensuring compliance with Food Safety and Environmental Health regulations.
- Order and manage food supplies efficiently, ensuring cost-effective stock control and minimal waste.
- Work closely with nursery management to develop seasonal menus that promote variety and nutrition.
- Support nursery events and themed days with creative, child-friendly meals.
Qualifications
- Essential Requirements
- Previous experience as a chef or cook (experience in a nursery, school, or care setting preferred).
- Level 2 or 3 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to update).
- Strong understanding of dietary needs, including allergies, intolerances, and vegetarian/vegan requirements.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- A caring, positive attitude and genuine passion for children’s wellbeing.
- Supervising experience with the ability to manage a diverse team effectively
- Extensive knowledge of food production, preparation, and cooking techniques
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Competence in managing inventory, ordering supplies, and controlling costs
- Exceptional communication skills with a focus on children, parents and rest of the team
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: £12.21-£13.25 per hour
Expected hours: 25 – 30 per week
