Technician — Part Time
VRXtra Kingston
About the role
You'll be the technical backbone of VRXtra Kingston: keeping our virtual reality kit running, guiding customers through sessions, and helping coordinate the team day to day. The role sits at the intersection of IT support, customer service, and gaming — if a headset goes down mid-session, you're the one who gets it back online without breaking the experience.
A core part of this position is teaching basic coding to kids through Minecraft and Roblox using our in-house syllabus. You don't need prior experience with either platform — we'll get you up to speed — but you do need a working grasp of Python, C#, or a comparable language. Confidence explaining code to a nine-year-old matters more than your GitHub history.
Day-to-day responsibilities
- PC, headset, and peripheral maintenance (hardware and software)
- Planning and running customer VR sessions end-to-end
- Live monitoring of sessions to catch issues before customers do
- Troubleshooting technical faults methodically and documenting them
- Teaching coding sessions for children using Minecraft and Roblox
- Coordinating with the rest of the on-site team
What we're looking for
Required
- Coding experience in Python, C#, or similar — enough to teach the fundamentals
- Comfortable working with children (a DBS check may be required)
- Strong diagnostic instincts on PC hardware and Windows 10/11 (including networking basics)
- Clear communicator with customers, kids, and colleagues
- Solid time management and the ability to juggle support tasks across the site
- Available for weekday, weekend, and evening shifts (we close around 8pm, occasionally later)
- Genuine interest in VR, PC, or console gaming
Preferred
- Prior experience as an IT technician
- Hands-on familiarity with Meta Quest, Oculus Rift, HTC VIVE, Pico, or SteamVR (native and PCVR)
- Experience leading or coordinating a small team
- Curiosity about the software stack behind Location-Based Entertainment (LBE)
