About the Role
We are looking for a reliable and practical General Site Operative to support the delivery of commercial solar PV projects.
The role will involve site set-up, general site duties, material handling and assisting with mechanical installation activities. Previous solar experience is not required, as project-specific training and supervision will be provided.
Main Responsibilities
General site duties
- Assist with setting up work areas, storage locations, access routes and exclusion zones.
- Help receive, offload, check and safely store materials and equipment.
- Move and distribute solar panels, framework, tools and materials around the site.
- Maintain clean and organised work areas, access routes, storage areas and welfare facilities.
- Collect and segregate waste, packaging and surplus materials.
- Assist with deliveries and general site logistics.
- Carry out basic pre-use checks on tools and equipment.
Supporting Solar Mechanical Installation
- Report hazards, damaged materials, defects and unsafe conditions.
- Support the assembly and installation of solar mounting frames and associated components.
- Assist with positioning and securing solar panels under supervision.
- Use hand tools and battery-powered tools safely.
- Complete basic visual quality checks and site records where required.
- Support other site activities as directed by the Site Manager or Supervisor.
About You
You will be:
- Reliable, punctual and willing to learn.
- Comfortable carrying out physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Able to follow instructions, drawings and safe systems of work.
- Confident using basic hand tools or willing to learn.
- Safety-conscious with good attention to detail.
- Able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Willing to support a range of activities as the project progresses.
Previous construction, installation or site experience is preferred, but solar PV experience is not essential.
Qualifications and Experience
The following would be advantageous:
- Valid CSCS or ECS card.
- Manual-handling training.
- Previous experience on construction or installation projects.
- Experience using hand tools and battery-powered tools.
- Relevant plant or machinery qualifications.
- Full UK driving licence.
Health and Safety
All operatives must follow site rules, approved RAMS and supervisor instructions. This includes attending inductions and daily briefings, wearing the required PPE, maintaining good housekeeping and reporting hazards, defects and incidents immediately.
Pay: £15.00-£18.00 per hour
