Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and versatile HGV Driver & Yard Operative to join our dynamic team. This role combines professional commercial driving with hands-on yard operations, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of goods and materials. You will be responsible for delivering and collecting loads to various sites while maintaining excellent customer service, as well as managing yard activities such as vehicle movement, loading, unloading, and site organization. Hours of Work
- Core Hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday
- Additional hours worked will be paid at 1.5 and 2 x normal hourly rate
Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) with lorry mounted cranes to deliver and collect goods at designated locations in compliance with all traffic laws and safety regulations
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure roadworthiness and report any issues promptly
- Load and unload efficiently, ensuring proper securing of loads on flatbeds or other specialized equipment
- Manage yard operations by moving vehicles within the site, organizing storage areas, and assisting with yard maintenance
- Communicate effectively with the office and customers
- Follow all health and safety procedures to create a safe working environment for yourself and colleagues
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial driving, particularly with flatbed trucks or similar heavy vehicles
- Strong knowledge of driving regulations and safety standards for HGV operators
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as manual handling loading/unloading loads and managing yard activities efficiently
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with team members, clients, and site personnel
- Ability to operate yard machinery safely and perform basic vehicle maintenance checks
- Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules or operational needs while maintaining high safety standards
Pay: From £37,500.00 per year
