PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
We are seeking a compassionate and dynamic Activities Coordinator to lead and enhance the quality of life for residents in our Avila care home in Bessbrook. The Activities Co-ordinator will work every Thursday & Friday for 4 hours on each day in the afternoon.
This is a great part-time role where you will use your experience in the arts, theatre, music, hospitality and event hosting to create and implement a wide variety of daily activities and programmes for our residents to enjoy. This creative role is designed to encourage our residents wellbeing, socialisation and physical activity.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing engaging activities tailored to the interests and needs of our senior residents, including those with dementia and other cognitive impairments. This role requires excellent communication skills and a deep understanding of senior care practices.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement a diverse range of activities that promote physical, emotional, and social well-being among residents.
- Assess the interests and needs of residents to create tailored activity programmes.
- Collaborate with nursing staff to ensure activities are suitable for residents with varying levels of ability, particularly those requiring dementia care.
- Facilitate group activities, one-on-one sessions, and special events that foster community engagement.
- Maintain accurate records of resident participation and feedback to continually improve activity offerings.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff to promote upcoming events and encourage participation.
- Ensure all activities comply with health and safety regulations within the care home environment.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a similar role within a nursing home or assisted living setting is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of dementia care principles and best practices in senior care.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with an ability to engage effectively with seniors.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Creative thinking and problem-solving skills to adapt activities based on resident needs.
- A genuine passion for enhancing the lives of seniors through meaningful engagement.
