Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club (The Blaze) has an exciting opportunity for student(s) at the beginning of their Sport Science career to join our Sport Science and Medicine team on a voluntary basis. The successful volunteer placement student(s) will gain experience in assisting at all performance levels of the programmes (County Age Group pathway through to Professional 1st team).
As the female professional game continues to grow Sport Science & Medicine support becomes increasingly important. As such we are looking to support the experience of aspiring students in opportunities in S&C coaching
Placement time: from November 2026 - and of September 2027 (11 months)
Hours per week: approximately 10 hours per week, flexible for the individual
Hours and days would vary in summer
Role profile: Strength & Conditioning Coaching
Applied coaching, athlete development, and physical preparation
Purpose of the Role
To support the delivery of physical preparation across the County Age Group pathway and The Blaze professional programme, gaining practical coaching experience and exposure to high‑performance S&C practice.
Key Responsibilities

Assist S&C staff with day‑to‑day coaching delivery in gym and field environments.

Observe and progressively assist with physical profiling (ForceDecks, SpeedGates, movement screening).

Observe and progressively support warm‑ups, speed sessions, strength sessions, and conditioning work under supervision.

Contribute to athlete monitoring processes (readiness, wellness, training load).

Gain insight into rehab management and injury risk reduction strategies.

Attend multidisciplinary meetings to understand integrated performance support.

Engage in an individualised CPD and mentoring programme aimed at developing coaching competence.

Potential opportunity for paid delivery once competency is demonstrated.

Person Specifications
Essential
-
Currently studying an BSc/MSc degree in Sport & Exercise Science, Strength & Conditioning or Data Science
-
Professional, organised, and motivated to learn in a high‑performance environment.
-
Clean DBS and Safeguarding & Protecting Children (provided if not held).
Desirable
-
Previous coaching or sport science experience.
-
Full clean driving licence.
-
Basic Life Support / First Aid qualification.
Personal Attributes

Enthusiastic and passionate about athlete development and performance.

Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships.

Curious, reflective, and committed to developing knowledge and practice.
