The Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Operations Shift Manager is responsible for overseeing, controlling, and continuously improving inbound warehouse activities. This role ensures efficient goods receipt, processing, and stock flow by effectively managing supervisors and teams, while aligning with warehouse procedures and business requirements.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Shift Management:
· Lead and coordinate Warehouse Supervisors, Team Leaders, and Operatives across inbound operations during the shift.
· Allocate inbound workload (receiving, unloading, put-away, intake processing) to ensure efficiency and adherence to standard operating procedures.
· Track progress against inbound KPIs, ensuring volume targets and service levels are achieved.
· Resolve operational challenges quickly, adjusting priorities to maintain productivity and flow.
Inbound Workflow Coordination:
· Oversee the end-to-end inbound flow, ensuring smooth receipt, checking, and storage of goods.
· Maintain effective communication and handovers between AM and PM shifts to ensure continuity of inbound operations.
· Build strong collaboration between inbound and outbound teams to support overall warehouse performance.
· Work closely with Supervisors and other departments (e.g. transport, planning) to prioritise deliveries and allocate resources.
· Monitor goods movement from dock to storage, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and correct system/process compliance.
People Management and Reporting:
· Manage and develop Supervisors, Team Leaders, Operatives, and agency staff within inbound functions.
· Conduct regular performance reviews, providing clear feedback, coaching, and support.
· Identify skills gaps and implement training and development plans.
· Address conduct and performance issues confidently, including leading investigations, absence reviews, and performance improvement plans (PIPs).
· Track and manage inbound KPIs, maintaining accurate performance data and reporting.
· Clear understanding of CPU and how to use this to make informed decisions.
Quality and Safety Compliance:
· Ensure inbound operations comply with all company procedures, quality standards, and safety regulations.
· Drive adherence to safe working practices, including correct use of PPE and equipment.
· Carry out routine safety and process audits, resolving risks or non-compliance promptly.
· Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance inbound accuracy, efficiency, and quality control.
What You’ll Bring:

- Computer literate with good numeric skills.
- Good understanding of CPU

- Ability to lead and develop leadership skills within the team.
- Exceptional time-management abilities.
- A team player.
- Excellent IT skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel etc.
- Experience of Peoplevox is beneficial but not crucial.
