New Direction is a Salvation Army Lifehouse based in Braintree, Essex, providing a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for adults who have experienced homelessness. The service offers accommodation and personalised support to up to 14 residents aged 18 and over, helping them to rebuild their confidence, develop independent living skills, and work towards long-term stability and positive outcomes.
Our dedicated team works closely with each resident to create tailored support plans that address their individual needs, whether that involves securing permanent housing, accessing healthcare services, gaining employment, improving wellbeing, or reconnecting with the local community. We are committed to treating every individual with dignity, respect, and compassion, empowering them to move forward and achieve greater independence.
As a Cleaner at New Direction, you will play a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents, visitors, and staff. Your work will directly contribute to creating a positive living space where individuals feel valued, supported, and able to focus on their journey towards a brighter future.
Key Responsibilities:
The General Assistant Cleaning post undertakes the duties which ensure the service is cleaned to a high standard and meets health and safety regulations and legislation. The role holder will interact with clients and should work in a professional and caring manner whilst respecting the diversity of clients.
The successful candidate(s) will be able to demonstrate:

Previous cleaning experience

Knowledge of relevant health & safety requirements and procedures

Experience of using cleaning equipment

Awareness of COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) requirements

Basic standard of literacy and numeracy

Ability to work alone or with minimal supervision

Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including ability to move chairs/tables/equipment as required

Ability to maintain a high standard of work

Ability to work as part of a team to ensure the aims and objectives of the Centre are achieved
