Job Overview
The Star Hotel Kingussie is looking for a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Porter / Kitchen Assistant to join our busy kitchen team in the beautiful Scottish Highlands.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and is looking to develop their skills within a professional hotel kitchen. In addition to traditional kitchen porter duties, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to assist with food preparation and support various sections of the kitchen, including starters, pizza preparation, and general prep work.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the kitchen.
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
- Assist chefs with food preparation, including chopping vegetables, portioning ingredients, and basic prep duties.
- Support the kitchen team with pizza preparation and service.
- Assist on starter and preparation sections during busy periods.
- Receive, store, and rotate food deliveries correctly.
- Keep kitchen workstations organised, stocked, and ready for service.
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, and health & safety procedures.
- Assist with waste management and recycling.
- Work closely with the kitchen team to ensure smooth service and efficient kitchen operations.
Requirements
- Previous kitchen or hospitality experience is desirable but not essential.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Team player with a strong work ethic.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Basic English communication skills preferred.
