A little about us
Caffi Chwarae is a brand-new café and play space opening in Abercynon.
We’re creating somewhere families genuinely enjoy spending time – with really good coffee and food, a warm welcome and thoughtfully designed play for little ones.
We want Caffi Chwarae to feel friendly, relaxed and beautifully looked after, even on the busiest days.
We’re now looking for an experienced Café Manager to help us bring that to life.
The role
This is a hands-on management role.
You’ll lead the team and take responsibility for the smooth day-to-day running of the café and play space, making sure customers receive a brilliant welcome and that standards stay high across everything we do.
You’ll absolutely still be making coffees, serving customers and clearing tables when needed. But you'll also be the person keeping an eye on the bigger picture – leading the team, organising shifts, managing stock, solving problems and making sure everything is running as it should.
Your role will include:
- Leading and supporting the café team day to day
- Creating a warm, welcoming experience for every customer
- Managing shifts and making sure the right people are in the right place
- Training, supporting and motivating team members
- Maintaining high standards of coffee, food and customer service
- Overseeing opening and closing procedures
- Managing stock levels, ordering and reducing waste
- Handling cash and day-to-day till procedures
- Keeping the café and play areas clean, organised and well presented
- Making sure our play spaces are checked, reset and maintained throughout the day
- Following food hygiene, health & safety and safeguarding procedures
- Dealing confidently and kindly with customer queries or problems
- Supporting events, parties and other activities at Caffi Chwarae
- Working closely with the owners to continually improve how we do things
Who we're looking for
Previous café or hospitality experience is essential, and we’re looking for someone who has experience taking responsibility for a team or shift.
You’ll be someone who:
- Has strong café/hospitality experience
- Has supervisory or management experience
- Is confident leading a small team
- Has excellent customer service skills
- Can keep calm and organised during a busy service
- Is proactive and notices the little things
- Is reliable, practical and happy to get stuck in
- Understands the importance of cleanliness and consistency
- Is confident handling customer queries and resolving problems
- Is comfortable working in a busy environment with babies and young children
- Can create a positive, supportive atmosphere for the team
Strong coffee knowledge and barista experience would be a big advantage.
Experience of food hygiene procedures, stock management, rotas and opening/closing responsibilities would also be beneficial.
Most importantly, we want someone who will care about Caffi Chwarae like we do.
This isn't a sit-in-the-office manager job
We’re a small team, so you'll be right in the middle of things.
On a busy Saturday morning that could mean jumping on the coffee machine, helping in the kitchen, welcoming customers, resetting the play space and supporting your team – sometimes all within the same hour.
We need someone who enjoys that kind of environment and leads by example.
The practical bits
Our busiest periods will include weekends and school holidays, so weekend availability is essential.
As a brand-new business, there will also be opportunities to help shape how Caffi Chwarae operates and to make the role your own as we grow.
