You will be part of a team that supports high-quality education by providing outstanding food and customer service to pupils, staff, and visitors.
Reporting to the Catering Manager, you will assist the kitchen team with food preparation, receiving and checking deliveries, cleaning duties, washing up, allergen awareness, and compliance with food hygiene regulations. You must be able to work effectively under time pressures and contribute positively as part of a team.
A full, clean UK driving licence is essential, as travel between sites will be required during the working day.
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation and Service
Assist cooks in preparing high-quality food for pupils, staff, visitors, hospitality events, and match teas.
Prepare, organise, and serve fruit during morning break.
Assist with the preparation of the servery and the service of hot meals to pupils at lunchtime.
Help serve lunch and afternoon tea as required.
Assist with refreshments for match teas, hospitality functions, and other school events.
Food Safety and Compliance
Follow all food safety standards, procedures, and Catering Manager instructions.
Carry out allergen and food temperature checks in accordance with established procedures.
Ensure correct stock rotation and assist with stock counts when required.
Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and uniform presentation.
Ensure the proper storage of all food items.
Cleaning and Housekeeping
Operate the dishwasher daily to ensure crockery, cookware, utensils, and equipment are cleaned promptly.
Daily wash thoroughly the kitchen, dining room and hall floor
Follow the kitchen cleaning rota and assist with scheduled deep cleans.
Maintain exceptionally high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in all kitchen, dining room, staff room, and food storage areas.
Sweep, mop, dry floors, and carry out general cleaning duties.
Empty and clean bins, replacing liners as necessary.
Ensure all surfaces are clean and sanitised.
Empty and sanitise sinks.
Remove, wash, and replace used cloths and tea towels.
Deliveries and Stock Control
Check all deliveries upon arrival and ensure they are correctly signed for.
Assist with stock management and inventory checks as required.
Site Support and Driving Duties
Drive between sites as required during the working day.
Assist with setting up and clearing dining room furniture throughout the day.
Teamwork and Flexibility
Work collaboratively with colleagues across all areas of the catering operation.
Support the efficient daily operation of the catering department.
Demonstrate self-motivation and the ability to work to the high standards expected by the Catering Manager.
Undertake additional duties appropriate to the role.
Be flexible to work occasional overtime to provide holiday cover or support events and hospitality functions.
Person Specification
Essential
Full, clean UK driving licence.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines.
Awareness of food hygiene and health and safety requirements.
High standards of personal presentation and hygiene.
Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated.
Desirable
Previous experience in a catering, hospitality, or school environment.
Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or equivalent).
Knowledge of food allergens and allergen management procedures.
