Job Description – Pot Washer & Cleaner
Job Title: Pot Washer & Cleaner / Kitchen Porter
Location: Alleppey Kitchen at The Castle Arms
Working Days: Wednesday to Sunday
Working Hours: Mainly evenings, approximately 8:00pm–11:00pm, or until the required cleaning and washing-up duties are completed.

Role Overview
We are looking for a reliable and hardworking person to help with evening cleaning and washing-up duties within our restaurant and kitchen.
The role is important in ensuring that the kitchen, restaurant and customer areas are left clean, hygienic and ready for the following day.
Main Duties
- Washing plates, cutlery, glasses, pots, pans and kitchen utensils.
- Washing and cleaning food preparation containers and kitchen equipment.
- Keeping the pot-wash and kitchen washing areas clean and organised.
- Cleaning kitchen surfaces, floors and designated kitchen areas.
- Cleaning and tidying the restaurant after service.
- Sweeping, mopping and general floor cleaning.
- Cleaning and maintaining customer and staff toilets.
- Emptying bins and disposing of waste correctly.
- Helping kitchen staff with general end-of-service cleaning when required.
- Ensuring cleaning products and equipment are stored safely.
- Following food hygiene, health & safety and cleaning procedures.
- Reporting any maintenance, hygiene or safety concerns to management.
Working Pattern & Availability
The normal working pattern is Wednesday to Sunday evenings.
Friday and Saturday availability is essential and is a condition of the role. These are our busiest trading days, so employees must be available to work their scheduled Friday and Saturday shifts.
Requests for Friday or Saturday off will not normally be approved, except in exceptional circumstances or where there is a statutory entitlement.
The normal shift will start at around 8:00pm and is expected to finish around 11:00pm, although the finishing time may vary depending on how busy the restaurant has been and when the required cleaning and washing-up is completed.
Delivery Driving
Having driving experience and a full driving licence would be an added advantage, as there may occasionally be opportunities to assist with local food deliveries when required.
Any delivery driving duties would only be carried out where the employee is appropriately licensed, insured and authorised to drive the relevant vehicle.
Person Specification
We are looking for someone who is:
- Reliable and punctual.
- Available to work every Friday and Saturday as scheduled.
- Hardworking and willing to help the wider team.
- Comfortable working in a busy restaurant environment.
- Able to work independently and complete tasks without constant supervision.
- Able to maintain good standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Flexible regarding finishing time, particularly on busy evenings.
- Previous restaurant, kitchen, cleaning or pot-washing experience is helpful but not essential, as training can be provided.
Pay: £8.00-£12.71 per hour
