Come and build something with us.
Humdingers is an independent London food business spanning catering, events, cafes, bakery and production — but what makes us different is what sits behind it all.
Founded by Robert Hunningher BEM, Humdingers has always believed that food can do more than simply feed a business. During the Covid pandemic, Robert and the Humdingers team turned their kitchens towards feeding NHS workers and supporting people in need — work for which Robert was later awarded the British Empire Medal.
That same spirit continues today through the Humdingers Community Kitchen, where we provide meals and support to people in our local community. It's not a separate side project; it's part of who we are. As Humdingers grows commercially, so does our ability to give back.
And we're growing!
We're now looking for someone who can help us take the bread side of Humdingers to the next level.
This isn't a role for someone who simply wants to turn up, bake what's on the production list and go home. We're looking for a brilliant bread baker with ideas, initiative and ambition — someone who wants to put their stamp on what we're building.
The role
Bread will be at the heart of what you do.
You'll produce high-quality breads from scratch for our cafes, catering operation and growing customer base, while helping us develop what comes next.
We're particularly interested in someone with strong knowledge of fermentation, dough development, shaping, proving and baking, and experience producing sourdough, focaccia, yeasted breads, rolls and other artisan products.
But technical ability is only part of what we're looking for.
We want someone who can look at what we're doing and think: how can we make this better, and how far could we take it?
There's a genuine opportunity to help us:
- Develop an exciting bread range for our cafes and catering menus
- Create new products and bring your own ideas to the table
- Grow our wholesale bread offering and build relationships with new customers
- Improve production as volumes increase
- Take ownership of quality and consistency
- Help shape the future direction of the bakery
- Grow your own role as this part of Humdingers develops
Who we're looking for
You might already be an experienced artisan or senior baker. Or you might be an ambitious baker who's ready for more responsibility and hasn't yet been given the opportunity to show what you can do.
Your current job title matters less to us than what you can bring — great baking skills, ideas, creativity and the ambition to help us build something special.
You'll need to know your bread, but we're also looking for energy, curiosity and initiative. Someone who cares about great food, enjoys being part of a team and gets excited by the idea of helping to build something rather than simply stepping into an established role.
We want someone who takes pride in their craft, brings ideas, gets stuck in and wants to grow with us.
More than just a bakery job
Humdingers is ambitious, but growth for us isn't only about selling more food.
Our commercial kitchens, cafes, events and catering operation enable us to continue and expand the work of our Community Kitchen. The more successful Humdingers becomes, the more we can do for the communities around us.
We're looking for someone who wants to be part of that journey.
Someone who can make exceptional bread, have a voice, develop their own ideas, help us grow our cafes and wholesale business — and know that the work they're doing is also contributing to something bigger.
Salary & development
We're deliberately keeping the package flexible because we don't want salary or job title to dictate who we meet.
For the right person, this could be anything from a great next step in your baking career to an opportunity to take significant ownership of a growing part of Humdingers.
Salary will be competitive and dependent on experience, ability and the scope of the role we build together.
If bread is your thing and this sounds like the kind of opportunity you've been looking for, come and talk to us. Feel free to reach out to [email protected]
